Re: Passenger side air bag

Not legally, at least for a dealership. I may be wrong, but I believe it’s a violation of federal law for a dealership to deactivate the air bag in a vehicle with a full size rear seat. The original reason for the deactivation switches is because an air bag can kill or severely injure a child even when the child is in a properly installed child safety seat. The deactivation switches are only installed in pickup trucks because there is no back seat. Children are ALWAYS supposed to ride in the rear seat(s) of a passenger vehicle.

Now to the technical side of the question, yes the air bag can be disabled. You’ll need an electrical schematic of the Excursion.

Re: Passenger side air bag

I was wondering the same thing as well. I was also wondering if what I have heard is true. Do they put weight sensors in the seats to allow the computer to decided to or not to deploy the air bag? I have heard that a couple places over the last few years, but have not seenn anything in writing for sure. I did not know if it was by choice by the car maker, or if is was standard across all makes/models these days? Anyone know?

Thank you,
Tony
