Passenger side mirror not moving correctly

My cheap chilton manual doesn't show how the power mirrors work!! What happens is when your trying to bring mirror in it actually goes up and in if your trying to go out it goes down and out. I will assume at this point possible motor issue but were are they? Also any other suggestions out there?

Thank You
Rodney

Re: Passenger side mirror not moving correctly

Rodney,

Others having the same problem have posted that their problem was the switch itself. Everyone claiming issues with the passenger side mirror makes me think your's may be the same . They said replacing
the switch solved the problem.

Hope you get it worked out soon.

Tim

Re: Passenger side mirror not moving correctly

I had the very same problem with both mirrors. I thought I would start troubleshooting the switch for starters. I purchased the replacement for $25 from the dealer and corrected the problem.

Good luck,
Tim

Re: Passenger side mirror not moving correctly

Rodman before you purchase a switch your mirror may have gotten hit and moved some and be at its limit. When you hold the switch down in the direction that it is not going far enough do you hear a clicking sound? If you do then push the mirror itself in the opposite direction and see if it moves enough to get the view that you want. Had that happen on my 2000 X . Mine was the small mirrors. Heck if you do not hear a click it is worth a try anyway.

Re: Passenger side mirror not moving correctly

Its the wifes truck so I dont drive it that much. The mirror was moved so I did the manual movement to fix so she can see the back of the vehicle. In regards to the switch I asked her to check the drivers side to see if it works correctly. If it works its probably not the switch. This is one reason why I cant stand all these electronics/electrics in vehicles!!

Thank You
Rodney

Re: Passenger side mirror not moving correctly

Please Rodman don't take this wrong, But I have done this once not long after I bought my first X. I thought my mirror was broken. I came close to pushing the rocker switch into the arm rest. hehe Check and see if the little slide switch is in the direction of the mirror that you are trying to get to move. Embarrassingly it does make a difference.

Another little thing that I found out was not long after I bought it, my sister (first person to ride by that door) was riding in the back seat. well we got where we were going and she couldn't open the back door from the inside. You could open the door from the outside, but from the inside. Bet we tried it 15 or 20 times. Soooooo on the way home the next day I pull into the dealer ship and tell Kenneth (service manager) about the problem. He just grinned from ear to ear. well we go out and he opens the door and ask me to have a seat and closes the door. Hey guess what I could open the damn door. Then he told me that this has happened a good many times before and showed me where the little child proof switch was by the door latch. We got a good laugh out of the incident.

I agree that they sure have put a lot of electrical and electronics on these buggies that we run down the pavement. Here is another one I found out almost the hard way. still in the grinning from ear to ear mode I stop to filler her up - second tank. Geter done and boogie in to pay and get going down the road. Well sir I put the key in and nothing happens. No click - nothing at all except for a loud silence. Soooooooooo I flip the ignition key a few times with the same results. Now I am getting aggravated to say the least. Hell I know how to drive a damn vehicle - been doing it for 50 years or more. Well I go to put the bugger in neutral to push it out of the way so other people could get diesel fuel. Madder than a wet hen by now in a snow storm. Was going to call the dealership for them to sent the wrecker and drag the damnit over there or bring a new ignition switch to put in it. So while I got it neutral I twist the key and the damn thing fires up just like normal Here I set dumb founded and confused - that doesn't take much anymore. Forgetting more and remembering less - the virus called CRS. Any way I pull out of the way and put the aggravating jewel in park and try her and low and behold the thing cranks right up. ? ? ? Yes.

First vehicle that I ever owned where you had to mash the break pedal to get it to start.

Yep things they do be achanging . hehe

Re: Passenger side mirror not moving correctly

Ed:

I didnt take that wrong I know what you mean about CRS!! I actually had the chance to drive the ex yesterday and it was working just perfect, I will take a guess it is possibly human error or the switch is acting up. She mentioned that the mirror was moving but from corner to corner when shes moving it side to side. Sounds like she had the correct mirror selector switch, but maybe she didn't have the mirror position switch exactly side to side and moving it to the corners. I dont know but next time I will test it myself before I post a question.

Thank You
Rodney

Re: Passenger side mirror not moving correctly

Yeah Rodney I defiantly have the CRS virus - in a stupor of most of the time.

On the mirror itself If when you are adjusting it and hear clicking sounds it has been bumped and is at its limit. You can take and mash the mirror in the direction you want it to go and then can fine tune it to where you want it.

I just wen out and checked my and you can center th mirror in its housing and go from there. My 2000 worked the same way.

That is a cheap way to check rather than throwing parts at it. hehe. I also took some acetone and removed a add on mirror that I want move from the top to the bottom. Sure helps a lot on the road. I have tried many of these and the one from Auto Zone ( only place I have seen them ) is about the best. It is the one with the black plastic border and it is kinda rectangular in shape and does not convex quiet as much as the round ones.
