Re: Peeling Roof Paint

Do it....my front bumper is a mess too, the roof is ok but scratched from the rack. The painted bumpers look horrible after one winter.

Re: Peeling Roof Paint

My FIL has an 03 ex with 240000kms (130000 Miles)and the paint around the windows is peeling right off. The bumbers are painted every spring otherwise they would be nothing but rust. Takes about a week for new chips to appear. ALWAYS get chrome.

Re: Peeling Roof Paint

You should have a 5 year warranty on the paint. Looks like you still have time to get the paint around the windows fixed for free by Ford.

Scrape off loose paint pick up some spray cans and doctor it up. Now for the best part Lift that thing up so nobody can see it.
Problem solved.

Re: Peeling Roof Paint

Same problem with my roof along with the inside the door. It has only happened with the driver side doors. Right along the outside half and up the paint is peeling. There hasn't been any body damage on mine. I tried 2 years ago with the dealer here and they said out of warrenty. I think they are too lazy or their men aren't good there. I wonder what kind of cheap paint they used.
Oh well I'll fix it before rust pops up.

Re: Peeling Roof Paint

sanded mine down from rail line to rail line and had it coated with Rhino Liner. No more peeling or worries about scratching with the luggage rails!
One of the best mods I've done.

Re: Peeling Roof Paint

That's actually a great idea. One could probably match the roof color or at least come close.

Re: Peeling Roof Paint

Well Ford steped up and paid 80%
I am happy with that since the truck is out of warranty
It is all done
They had to Strip the entire Roof section sand and repair the rusted areas. Strip the Hood also

Re: Peeling Roof Paint

Sounds like the water-based paint debacle of GM back in the 80's and 90's. I still see 10 year old GM trucks driving around with whole sheets of paint peeling off the roof, hood, and fenders.

Re: Peeling Roof Paint

They are still required to use the water based paints. Just about every US made car will eventually peel.

Re: Peeling Roof Paint

Please give us the details of how you got Ford to step up to the plate. I've noticed a couple of small discolorations that may eventually lead to this on our roof. Sounds like other have too.

Back when we first got our X I noticed a few other problems with the paint and had Ford fix them during the paint warranty period. It was also on the roof, rear doors, etc. It was like it the X was sprayed in a contaminated booth. I'm probably not the only one who has had problems with the OEM paint.

Thanks,

-Mike[color:#000099][/color]

Re: Peeling Roof Paint

I've got a 4 year old excursion and a 13 year old Dodge Minivan. Neither has problems with paint peeling. Both have been garaged since new so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. I've also taken care to provide a good car wax every 6 months to protect the finish. Here in south texas the heat/sun will kill a car that is left unprotected.
