The Perfect Excursion Setup

OK, guys---help me out. I've now lifted my F-250, and she hates it (I love it). So it's time to address her 2k PSD Excursion. I know that she doesn't want to lift it, but she does want the Velvet Ride Shackles, which will lower the EX, even more than it lowers a SD (I don't know why, but apparantly it does)----so given the rules that she doesn't want a higher riding vehicle, and she DOES want to get off the Firestones, and get a more "car-like" ride, what would you guys install??? I'm talking tires, shocks, stablizers, anti-sway bars, etc. Right now, it's completely stock.

let me know!!!!

Re: The Perfect Excursion Setup

I have tried to keep, more or less, a “stock” profile for my X. Haven’t done any lifts – would have tried the Velvet-Ride but adding a lift to cover the drop seemed counter-productive. I still want to get into my garage.

I suggest the basic mods that I’ve done, if your wife does want a “stock” profile – the changes should also keep you happy too. Bo)

I like my Pro Comp shocks and steering stabilizer, firms things up and reduces sway, but still not truck-like. Rear Hellwig anti-sway, probably don’t need to jump into the “front” yet – try just the rear for awhile. I like the BFG Long Trail tires – I’ve burned up several sets of Mud Terrain and All-Terrain on my earlier 4X4’s. Unless you live in the dirt off-roading I’ve been real happy with good all-seasons, comfortable on the highway, not loud and they basically work just great off road for most purposes. I’d also recommend the Western Diesel 50hp chip – largely for the shifting improvements but it’s a kick in the rear when you want to shake the dust off. Bo)

That really should be it – that alone will make the X feel a whole lot better but it will still be a “civilized” stock unit – of course a K&N air filter is a no-brainer.

Re: The Perfect Excursion Setup

Goldframe----sounds like a great plan--- only one question---how big are those tires---do they fit on the factory rims??? How much do you think that entire investment will be????
thanks

Re: The Perfect Excursion Setup

First of all – I should have asked the all important question “ The Perfect Excursion” perfect for who?? LOL

Boy – you want me to ALL the work.

Roughly, the cost break down for me was:

Shocks and Stabalizer (installed): 288
Sway Bar: 207
Tires: 500
Chip: 480
Air Filter: 35

Total – includes shipping + install: 1,510

Probably a bit less than you spent on upgrading your toy – gotta keep the ‘misses happy. LOL Good Hubby.

Stock size tires – keeping the “stock” profile that I like. I had to have PSDieselV8 badges on the front doors and the rear – your wife may be happy without them. Not me – had to have ‘em!

Just my suggestions – keeps my ‘misses happy!

Re: The Perfect Excursion Setup

Which power chip did you pick with the WD??

I like my TD Life Saver - what's the F1??

Let us know what mods you choose as you go along.

Does your Super Duty live in the garage or outside when at home??

Re: The Perfect Excursion Setup

Hey my TD Life Saver doesn't have that, it's a pain to give up those little conveniences. Mostly being able to unlock the car remotely, I just use the door button to lock but if a passenger is still getting out its nice to be able to lock remotely too. Just installed it about 9 days ago - I'll have to see if I can get that. Is it something that needs to be specified when ordering??

Thanks Aces

Re: The Perfect Excursion Setup

Got sidetracked----velvet ride shackles are going in Friday, at her request---then she wants to look at the truck to see if I need to increase the size of the block, to make up for the squat-----check signature to see what she already has---then, after Thanksgiving, shocks, stablizer, anti-sway. Suprisingly, she wants to keep the tires 'til they wear more---she likes the way the Steeltex's ride.

I'll keep you posted.

Re: The Perfect Excursion Setup

I’m very interested in the Velvet-Ride Shackles on the X, could you take before and after measurements from the hitch and top of the rear wheel-well “fender”, they sound like they would further isolate vibrations, like on a washboard dirt road. Since you’ve had them on the SD for awhile now – I take it your still happy with them??

At present I’m really pleased with my ride after changing the shocks and adding the anti-sway bar. I’m concerned that the beast still be able to get into the garage, I have about 1 ½ to 2-in. to spare now - maybe.

FWIW - The Steel-Tex tires rode fine for me for the 3 days that I had them on. Bo) The BFG Long Trails ride very nicely, they do have an advanced tread pattern, being that they’re uni-directional, different tread pattern on the inside edge from the outside edge. That gives them improved highway performance for me here where we have snow, as well as generally improved handling. As I mentioned, I chose OEM specs for size – got them at my local Sam’s Club with a 50,000-mile warranty. When I used to run BFG Mud-Terrain or BFG All-Terrain like you have on the SD – I don’t think I ever got more that 25K from a set. But they looked great!

Keep us posted – Happy Trails

Re: The Perfect Excursion Setup

I'm very happy w/Velvet Rides, but my truck is mostly empty---again, if you have weight back there, and I mean real weight, I'm told these are not for you!!!! I'll take pix for you, but I'm warned that on the EX, the rear will sit down somewhere between 2" and 3". That's a lot, and I'm not sure what I'll do about it---probably a bigger block. She hates all this modifying, but she wants the VR's, and when she sees the rear down that much, I don't think she'll be happy w/it.
