Well, after a few months of deciding and looking, I finally found a truck for sale in San Diego that I liked. Flew out from Las Vegas yesterday afternoon, looked it over, had the usual dealings w/ the salesman/manager, and ended up driving away with it last night
'01 Excursion Limited PSD, 60K miles, Burgundy/Gold bottom, tan leather interior. 1 owner (female), vehicle was a lease return and has the remainder of a 6yr/100K miles premium care warranty. Overall it's in FLAWLESS condition, hell, the drivers seat looks like it's barely been sat in
Drove it last night from san diego up to Encino for work, and tomorrow afternoon I head back home to Las Vegas where I can finally take some pictures of it.
Much thanks goes out to everyone on this board who have given me pointers on what to look for, and in general helped me out in making the decision to get a PSD truck.

Hehe, yeah, I was aiming for as low mileage as possible. I did see an '00 with 17K on it, but it was from a small used car lot and they wanted WAAAAY too much for it.
Mods will come in due time. Plans are for an gauges, exhaust, the ford AIS intake, and then maybe a chip/programmer, but I've got to do more research, and still have a warranty to think about
For the time being I'll get it home, take some pictures, end enjoy the truck as is. First major trip will come after the near year when I drive back across the country to upstate new york for school.
My 2001 X just turned 110,000. The only serious problem was a cam position sensor and a set of batteries.
Be sure you keep a spare CPS and a 10mm socket in the dumpster. Chances are that sometime in the future the engine will either stop cold, or fail to start. Changing the CPS is a piece of cake.
Good luck on your new truck.
