Re: Pickin up my new X Monday?

I have heard people complain about the leather and cloth material seperating, so make sure seams are intact. Also make sure all of the Turbo bolts are there. I would ask that the coolant to be checked for the correct amount of FW-16. Check all of the normal stuff like lights, tires, wipers, radio, CD Tape work OK. See if the roof rack has rubbed of any paint on the roof. Some people have removed the rack because of this. (I did) Just give it a good walk over and I'm sure it will be all right. I would also make sure the engine does not have the famous cackle. Do a search and you will find wav. files with this sound. You will know it if you hear it. Don't confuse normal diesel knocking engine noise that occurs with a cold engine with cackle.

Good Luck,
Ben

Look at the top of the car to make sure the paint does not have over spray or other blemishes.

Re: Pickin up my new X Monday?

I have an Arizona Beige X and the cement used for the weatherstripping turned the paint purple. Check for problems near the doorsills. Also check the body seams on the roof. Mine had some welding rod painted over and the seam wasn't properly filled in. Between that and the roof rack problem I've had 3/4 of my X repainted already.

Re: Pickin up my new X Monday?

Go see my posts at this location http://forums.ford-diesel.com:8080/u...ML/000727.html

Also look at the paint inside the doors. I just noticed on mine the paint is cracking. Also my truck has a good bit of Orange Peel in the paint. This problem can be addressed with wet sanding and buffing but would only allow a good body shop to do it. Check out the quality of the glass too and make sure no scrathes. I would also tell them you'd like to take it home and clean it before they do if possible and before you pay for it. You'd be amazed at what you find the first time you begin cleaning something this BIG. Good luck.

Re: Pickin up my new X Monday?

Hey Duck congratulations.
If you will go to the FAQ section of the forum and click on the 99 and up super-duty section. Then on the left hand side click on the topic about inspecting a new vehicle. This is a very good article and takes a while to do. But worth it.
One of the first things to do is after you get THAT BIG EAR TO EAR GRIN OFF YOU FACE is to take the crossbars off the luggage carrier on the roof of your new X. Just put them on when you are going to use it. I do not what idiot designed them this way. Had to have the IQ of a cucumber at the most. Sand will get under them and ruin the paint if you don't.

s to all and the best.

Ed
