Pirelli Scorpion AT's

Just got my Excursion from the dealer. Warranty rotor repair (fixed front end shimmy) and had the Scorpion AT's put on in place of the Steeltex D's (33000 miles with lots of tread left). Of course they were only pumped up to 41psi, but they look good (although I would have preferred LT285/75-16. I inflated them to 60psi and they ride well. Time will tell how long they last.

Re: Pirelli Scorpion AT's

I have over 43,000 miles on mine and all four have at least 7/16 inch of tread depth across the face of each tire.

Re: Pirelli Scorpion AT's

I put about 30K on a set on my Suburban and they had plenty of life left in them. Great tires, I'd buy them again.

Re: Pirelli Scorpion AT's

CHPMustang,

We had the same tire replacement done about six weeks ago. Other than picking up a rather large screw on the way home, necessitating a quick run to the local tire fix-it shop to patch; we've been very pleased with the ride and handling.

Regards,

Phil

Re: Pirelli Scorpion AT's

The Pirelli's are good riding/handling tires. So far I only have about 100 miles on them, and all of those miles are So. Cal. freeway. So far so good.

Re: Pirelli Scorpion AT's

Just got my free Scorpion AT's from Ford last week (just changed by Sig line too). I was preferring to get the STRs and apparently the Ford dealership wasn't thinking about the AT's versus the STR because they put AT's on. THEN I forgot to request black side out, so they have the white lettering out (most people prefer white lettering, but I don't). Oh well.

But really, I guess I shouldn't complain about $900 worth of free tires.

My impressions thus far are all positive. They look great, ride great, and do feel stiffer than the Firebomb D tires. I think they are more quiet too, but my road trip in a few weeks will give me a better feel for that aspect. Overall, a pretty good deal!

Re: Pirelli Scorpion AT's

Those of you that did get the Scorion AT replacements,I'm curious to what tire pressures they were when installed or what they at currently.

Reason I ask is that when the front pair are at 55psi the steering wheel gets a shake/wobble like they are 44inch monster mudders and abit worse when the tires are cool/cold.

I'm trying to identify if the sharp outer tread edge is grabbing the road abit causing the wobble at 45-55 mph(especially in bends in the road),the truck shop foreman also mentioned that could be a cause.

Feedback??

Re: Pirelli Scorpion AT's

I get the same type of shaky feel if I go over 55 PSI in mine. Normal PSI here is 52 front and back. At first I thought I had a front wheel-bearing problem, but repacking them did not make the shaky feel go away when first accelerating up to 60 MPH. The adjusted air pressure makes them ride very well.

Re: Pirelli Scorpion AT's

Thanks for the reply there Roy

I have the front pair set at 68-70psi and the seems to have cleared up,the wobble was most pronounced when the tire are cold.

Maybe after some miles get put on I'll lower the psi some but they don't ride bad at all near 70psi,but I'll bet that the additional 125 lbs of steel on the front of the truck might have compounded the issue some.

Re: Pirelli Scorpion AT's

At 95 mph mine are smooth as at 45. I use 65 psi because the truck wanders too much in the 40-55 psi range. Replacing both sway bars with large ones helped that also. I do believe the sharp tire edge makes them prone to following imperfections in the road and when I drive on a shoulder they do have a mind of their own. But I'm spoiled because the roads in TN are some of the smoothest in the country and I travel all over.
