Re: Porpoise Effect

Dunko,

Even with the mods I've done I still get some clunk over hard bumps. I don't know if it's the sway bar end links or the drivers side cab mount. I had the sway bar end link on drivers side off the other day to check the bushings and clean up the connection on the outside of the frame. The upper link is pretty weak and the hole on the outside of the frame seems to allow for some play. This leads me to believe that this may be the source of the clunk.

How are the connections for the Hellwig front bar compared to the stock? Do they use polyurethane bushings? Does it seem much tighter overall?

Re: Porpoise Effect

XR7GT-
they do use the urethane bushings but it is a strict replacement- i.e. same bolt holes etc. the bar is thicker hence a stiffer feel and less bounce. As far as the slop i think you are on to somthing with the mounting holes. I love the difference! How do you like the shocks and pro-comp? could you tell a big difference from stock.

Re: Porpoise Effect

Dunko,

Thanks for the feedback. I called Hellwig and they told me the stock end links are used. Maybe the larger bar and polyurethane bushings would help with some excess movement over bigger bumps. The shocks and stabilizer were well worth it. Overall ride, stability over rough roads much improved. Maybe I have less tendency for sway in front end with lighter V-10, but cornering is much improved.

I need to upgrade tires. It's down to Michelin LTX M/S or BFG A/T. I think I'll stick to 265's to preserve my mileage at 12 to 14. I'll keep my exhaust upgrade questions on the gas forum.
