Power loss at 70 mph

At 68~70 mph in over drive (around 1900~2000 RPM) when going up a grade, the engine starts to lose power. It acts like air bubbles in the fuel cuz the engine feels like it's missing or caughing. Then it downshifts and the choppy power goes away.

Anyone have some input on this?

Thanks.

Re: Power loss at 70 mph

Need to bring it to the dealer. It's dumping boost more than it should. However, with the lift and 35's you'll bog it down more. Even stock if you can get it to hold low RPM's and try to pull a grade, as boost builds >20psi you'll notice it'll dump as it can't use it at that RPM. Bump the RPM's up and you'll notice it'll drop boost a little and won't dump anymore.

There is an issue with some trucks dumping too much, consistantly so I'd have it checked, but you may get the lift and 35's pushed back at you, especially if the speedo hasn't been corrected.

With 285's, towing, pulling a grade mine will "burp" a little if I manage to hold the RPM's low. But it's not so much that it bucks as it dumps.

Re: Power loss at 70 mph

I've had the 35" tires and lift since 1,000 miles on her (30,000 now). This just started "bucking" (good description) 2 weeks ago. Never happened before now. So why would it have this problem just come up? IF that is what it is?

Thanks.

Re: Power loss at 70 mph

Oh, then it does need to go in. There are several posts in the 6.0 Engine Forum about this. I don't recall if it's the VGT solenoid, or turbo itself or both. I know many end up with a new turbo and I think there is a TSB.

Well then. I'll make an appointment today! Thanks for the input. I'll post back when we find out what's what.
