Power steering question - Diesel Forum

My '02 X has ~35k miles on it. Recently the power steering started to groan. The dealer's solution was to add fluid. My question: isn't the system a closed system? Doesn't the loss of fluid indicate another problem? I'm anxious about this only because the truck's warranty is about to expire.

Another way of fluid loss if it was the case is to "try" and turn the wheel with the engine off,the fluid pressure within the pump will build then pop off goes the cap with fluid spilling [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bleh.gif[/img]
