power window problem....won't fully open

My drivers window is slow to open and binds/stalls at about half way. If I push on it, it will continue to fully open. But it closes at twice the speed without binding, even from full open. I changed the motor and sprayed some lube on the scissor mechanism and tracks, but still won't fully open without help. Any suggestions/cures?

Re: power window problem....won't fully open

ON my previous Y2K X mine started doing that. I took the inner panel off and it was one of the hollow nuts that holds the track had started backing off. It miss aligned the arms and would start to stick. . You did not say what year model it is. If I remember right I had a screw inside where the courtesy light is at the bottom of the door. There was another one I think under where the switches are. They just pop out from the front I think. All the connectors have to be unplugged, but they are polarized so they will only fit the correct connector. There may be a screw in the door handle cavity and down on the right bottom of the the door. Heck it has been three or more years since I did that. When you figure out where all the screws are and get them removed the panel lifts straight up and comes off easily. I don't know if my 05 X is the same or not. It is not a hard job to do. While I was at it I took a can of silicone and put the wand on it and did all of my tracks. Did the windows ever work better.

If someone has a better memory than me chime in or know for sure.

Re: power window problem....won't fully open

It's a 2001 X. I've had it all apart, sprayed the silicone and changed the motor. Didn't see any screws loose. May need to take a closer look.

Re: power window problem....won't fully open

Cody what I am talking about is those stamped nuts . Mine was about a 1\3 of the way off. Hope you find the gremlin . It was on the inside about the middle of the door and was one that that held the part that allowed the part that goes up. It would lean to the outside and bind. Dang it I could lay my hand on it but my terminology sux as to what to call the parts in there . hehe

Good luck Ed

Re: power window problem....won't fully open

I haven't figured it out on my 01 either, other than the fact it seems to be a widespread problem. When mine starts doing it, I just spray WD40 up and down the tracks the window rides in. From the top of the door down, front and rear tracks. Then run the window up and down a few times, and clears it up for a month or so, then it's time for another spraying.

Re: power window problem....won't fully open

Dave go to Orilly's parts house. They have a dry Teflon spray that does not attract dust and it would last longer to. Expensive though DuPont makes it. Good stuff. That is the blue can.The orange can has a combination of Silicone and Teflon. That may be better but I imagine it would leave a film.

Re: power window problem....won't fully open

THIS STUFF works great for sticking or slow moving windows and will not wash off. You need to remove the door panels and apply it to the slides on the tracks and the window runs. Your local Ford dealer should have it in stock or could order you one.

Re: power window problem....won't fully open

Thanks for all the info. I should have felt around up inside the door some more while I was replacing the motor, but I was sure that was the problem. I'll dig into it a little more on Sunday before the Steelers get their 5th championship!

Re: power window problem....won't fully open

Speaking of windows, I have been in maybe 10 different Xs and tried the windows, mine are 3x's as fast as every one I have seen, and I try them all, even SD PUs are slower. I have an 03 if that matters but man these are fast. I guess I am lucky, I will hit 100,000 miles in about 2 weeks and all I have had to fix was a door lock but that was the stereo installers fault. My reverse sensors don't work but I am used to that now and don't care. Oh, the plug for the block heater just went but I replaces it with speaker wire. Just kidding, I did have to replace it though.
