Prepump and HX installed.

Well, I finally got the prepump and HX installed last night. Finished both mods in about 4 hours and even took some time to punch out the plastic restrictor in the filler neck.

Overall impressions of the mods, truck is smoother and quieter at idle. Definately a change in sound at low RPM, it sounds much smoother than it did before the mod (My wife even noticed the difference).

Haven't had a chance to drive it for an extended period but it still sounds like I have some cackle above 1500 RPM. Might go away after all the air gets worked out of the system though.

One thing I noticed that I remembered from an earlier thread, I have a skid plate on the fuel tank and the transfer case. I guess this isn't common on the X?

Later,
Joe H

Re: Prepump and HX installed.

Did you just do the pre pump mods or also the tank mods also? It took me about 10 miles to compleatly notice the effects of the fuel system mods. The first 2-4 miles, I said to my-self, that was a waste of time. But I was completely supprised at the outcome after about 10 miles when my noisey engine became quiet. Do did the right thing.

Re: Prepump and HX installed.

Sorry, should have noted that as well, I did the tank mods too... I've only put about 6 miles on it since I finished the job, so I'm sure I'll see something soon. Plus, I'm taking a trip to Fla this weekend so it should show by the end of that trip.

The skid plate on the fuel tank is standard equipment. The skid plate on the transfer case was only a factory option on some early 2000 model years. Someone recently posted you can order this skid plate with a heavy duty option group on the 2003 model years. I believe it is option code 60G. However, I have not confirmed that information. I know a transfer case skid plate from a F250/350 bolts right on.

Hope this helps,

Re: Prepump and HX installed.

Congrats on getting the mods knocked out Joe

I didn't even get 2 miles down the road and noticed some positive changes as far as sound and acceleration goes.

We've put about about 150 miles on it since the mods and the engine has quieted down quite abit and the additional power has matched it as well
