Prepump Mod

Read some older posts about the prepump mod. Went to a local parts store and asked for 14" of Diesel rated fuel line. They sold me a piece of "fuel injection" hose, and said it would work with diesel becuase it was made for the high pressure. Just want to verify that this is true before I go through the trouble of putting it on.

Also, was wondering why all of the bubbles would not separate out in the fuel filter? Seems like the flow through the system is slow enough that they would. Also seems like these things would develop air locks, with the introduction of a bunch of bubbles in the system.

Re: Prepump Mod

Go back and get your money back, all you need is 3/8 inch diesel rated fule line, 14" should cost $1.25, The fuel line before the pump is not under high pressure

Re: Prepump Mod

Actually, if memory serves you want 5/16" fuel line. I've heard of folks having air bubble problems with the 3/8" line...which defeats the whole purpose of this modification!

Re: Prepump Mod

It's 5/16 internal diameter. It only cost a couple of bucks...so is it diesel compatable and will it work?

Re: Prepump Mod

You got what you want.

The problem is that there are so many bubbles; it is not just a few big ones but guys who came up with this mod actually said the fuel looked milky becuase it was so aerated. Allowing the bubbles to pass into the injectors causes cackle and will actually pit the injector pintles.

Unfortunately, the lines are leaking more on some trucks and less on others so you may not see a change but you never know. You can get an air/fuel separator that allows the fuel to pool and the air to come out. They work very nicely but also cost a fortune.

I would suggest you use a pair of needle nose pliers to slightly stretch the inside diameter of the fuel pump side of the hose. It will make it easier to get it over the rib on the fuel pump inlet nipple.

Good luck,
mark

Re: Prepump Mod

OK,

I just did long search for prepump, air in fuel, and etc. and found no old posts on this mod. Except 12/28/02 when some pics of "air in fuel" were removed due to damaged files.

Anyone have a suggestion on where I can read up on this and whether I even need to??

2004 X.

Thanks in advance,

Mesu

Re: Prepump Mod

You are not finding any posts because they are in the archived forums you have to search here and go to the 7.3 forums and search under the 7/03-3/05 dates forums. You should find tons of posts.
