Pro Comp lift???

Hi all,

first post.. Great forum..

Anyway, Was wondering if anyone has some info on the 4" pro comp lift for the excursions??? I am looking at a used kit from a fellow member here, but just wanted some feedback on the kit.

How is the ride??? This is our family vehicle, so a nice ride is important.

We plan on towing a travel trailer in the future. So i am wondering if i can still add Air bags or some kind of helper spring on the rear.

Will the helwig stabilizer bar work with the lift kit???

And if anyone has a pic of the 4" kit installed, send me a link!

Thanks a ton!
Ron

Re: Pro Comp lift???

Personally (preference only), unless you have a need to lift it, for looks, show, offroad use, etc...
Otherwise for family use, around town, towing, I prefer not lifting it.
I went for the 2wd drive because of the handling and ride. I've added the hellwig, replaced the shocks and upgrade to 285/75 tires. It rides great, handles like a dream and tows without a problem (3 ton boat/trailer) and without sagging.

This is just an opinion, your mileage may vary.

Re: Pro Comp lift???

You can see from my sig. at the bottom what I have. I have a family w/two kids and there isn't a problem getting in and out. My youngest is 3 and he gets in himself with the stock running boards. The ride is a little stiffer, but it handles a lot better in the turns.

I installed a 6", but wish I would have gotten an 8". I can almost guarantee you if you get a 4" you will wish you had a 6" lift. Good luck.

Welcome to the site

Also, I tow a 26' 10,000# toy hauler with the lift and it tows great. No problems at all.

Re: Pro Comp lift???

I don't know anything about the pro-comp lift for the Excursion.

On jeeps we tend to stay away from Pro-comp, but that's just my own personal bias. Some of the early ones at least had quality problems. I have no idea how they are on the X though.

Regards,
Dave

Re: Pro Comp lift???

Ron,

It's not a bad kit but you might want to consider upgrading the shocks though. Excursions can use a bit of lift as they have a real problem staying off the bump stops. Keep in mind that a 4" lift for SD is a 6" lift on an X. However you will probably actually net about 5" over where you are now.

Re: Pro Comp lift???

Forgive my ignorance by why is a 4" SuperDuty lift a 6" lift on and X? Is the X lower to start with? (all I can guess)

I'm considering trading my 4x2 F350 for a 4x4 X maybe as early as today....going to look at a couple this afternoon.
