Re: Problems with New X Delivery

David, sorry to hear of the rough ride home partner
There was another member here that had the same thing happen to him as well just after pulling off the lot.
If it takes some go pedal to get er going I might suggest a stuck or out of adjustment Exhaust Pressure Valve or the wastegate butterfly.
I wish I could recall the members name as he'd be able to chime in on what the skinny was with his new Excursion 6.0
If you have time in the morning to take the truck out for a gentle run to see if it occurs again and if so don't force it to accelerate as you may break something and you'll really be stuck and we don't want that.
If it occurs again, call the dealer and have them send a slidebed to pick the truck up to go back to the dealer so they can fix the prob.
Keep your chin up,I think we've all had a gremlin or two after purchasing a new Ford

Re: Problems with New X Delivery

The other person posting about a similar problem had a wire (or wires) related to fuel system that had rubbed and were shorting against metal causing the engine to cut out. This sort of sounds like this may be that same problem. He posted on here just a few days ago that his truck had not missed a beat in 5-6 weeks since the dealer fixed the wires and restrained them out of harm's way.

It could be anything. Call the dealer and have them pick it up. Thats what the warranty is for.

Re: Problems with New X Delivery

I went out after dark tonight and checked and reseated all of the electrical plugs I could locate.

I then took it on another 30 mile test drive. I couldn't get the problem to repeat itself. It ran like a scalded cat.

I guess only time will tell. I'll go over it tomorrow when I have better light to check for any harness issues.

Thanks for the input and feedback.

David

Good to hear you cleared it up David, probably was just a loose connector which can from time to time be missed

Happy Friday!

Re: Problems with New X Delivery *DELETED*

Bill

Just thought I would include a little follow-up information. I initially reported the problem to the selling dealer last night via email since there service department was closed for the day by the time we finished the sales paperwork.

My sales person immediately escalated the issue to the service manager who called me first thing this morning. They highly encouraged me to bring it in for a quick scan for problems. They did verify via Oasis that it has all the latest flash updates and upgrades.

One of the reasons I picked this dealership was because they have two of the highest certified diesel mechanics in the state of Texas with over 25 years experience. They are a family run operation with a vested interest in keeping customers happy. They were very apologetic and seemed to be sincerely concerned about the problem.

Because of that I plan on taking it down to them on Monday night for a diagnostic check up. I'm also going to ask them about any preventive measures they can take to prevent the wire chafing issues that have been reported. They talked like that wasn't a concern at this point since there is only 40 miles on the truck. They said they would give it a complete diagnostic check over.

I'll let you know what if anything they find. In the mean time I have some goodies to install this weekend...

Have a good day.

David

Re: Problems with New X Delivery *DELETED*

Bill

I bought the Husky flaps, mats and cargo liner. I got a pretty good deal with shipping from Cabela's.

Do you know of any easy way to remove one of those turbo diesel badges? I managed to get one on just a tad bit crooked. I guess that's what I get for trying to do that and watch my 5 year old at the same time.

Thanks for all the follow-up.

David

Re: Problems with New X Delivery *DELETED*

As some of you know I had a problem with power loss while driving the new X home after taking delivery Thursday night.

I thought I might have had the problem fixed after reseating all of the electrical connections I could find.

I also noticed a problem with the air filter setup. It looked to me like the back side wasn't sealing properly as Ford only has two clips that hold the plastic housing against the air intake for the turbo.

Well to make a long story short the problem was resurfacing often enough that I decided to take it into the dealer this morning for service. They were VERY courteous and apologetic for my situation. The truck only had 72 miles on the odometer before needing service.

There most experienced diesel mechanic, the service department manager
(who also has 25 years of diesel experience) went with me on a test drive. We weren't on the road 5 minutes until the X started losing power, spitting and coughing.

The next step was to load a diagnostic computer into the truck and connect up to the onboard truck computer. When the symptoms returned during the next test drive a code was spit out that indicates either a throttle position sensor or an EGR valve problem.

Since no one in their service department had seen this problem before on the 04 PSD engines they wanted to consult with Ford Engineering and keep the truck until Monday or Tuesday. The service manager assured me this would be there highest priority and he would take full responsibility. He also stated that he would test drive the truck himself after his technicians reported to him that the problem has been fixed to make sure it was performing to specifications.

All of this had made me feel a little better. I'm still not happy that a 45K truck has to be taken in for service with 72 miles on the odometer.

They did provide me with a free rental car (Ford Focus) until I get the new X returned. Quite a contrast between the X and the focus.

Thought you might like to know.

David

Glad to hear that they're taking care of you! Let us know how it turns out. I'm real curious as to why they didn't just replace the bad parts. Good luck!!

Regards,
Dave

Re: Problems with New X Delivery *DELETED*

I was told they had never seen this problem before and they wanted to consult with Ford Engineering before giving the truck back to me. The problem is somewhat intermitent.

They also wanted any history they could get on the problem from the engineers at Ford.

They don't want a 2nd service visit because they failed to fix it on the first attempt.

I'd rather they keep it one extra day if it means I don't have to spend additional days sitting in the service waiting room on repeat visits.

Regards;

David

Re: Problems with New X Delivery *DELETED*

Thought you all might like to know that my engine performance problems have been resolved.

The dealer ended up replacing the EGR throttle body and sensors on both sides. It now runs like it should have from the beginning.

Mileage on the overhead has already started to increase.

Maybe now I can start grinning...
