Over the past year, I've been having a problem with my truck when I've got it programmed with the SCMT. I generally have it on the tow-safe mode so I don't have to change the settings between empty and towing.
My dealership has replaced the turbo (twice), the turbo downpipe, and the PCM--all under warranty. They know I've got the SCMT but have done it anyway.
It seems that whenever I program the truck, I get exceptionally loud turbo farts when I let off the accelerator after getting into it--almost like someone was banging pots and pans under the hood a couple times; these loud turbo farts were what initially signalled me to get the turbo checked out, and later replaced.
Has anybody else had these problems? My SES light hasn't been on after getting the PCM replaced. Up until recently, I refused to believe the SCMT was part of the problem. But after my truck was running great on stock programming for two months, I decided to program it to tow-safe and, sure enough, it started again. I've usually got a P0603 code (no SES light).
The common sense answer is to leave it on stock, but the turbo lag is exceptional, almost dangerous in city driving.
Any ideas??

Hmmm...
sure sounds like the culprit...
I'd think twice about using it again...
sell it to some other unsuspecting dude
maybe your 03 Ex is different from the other trucks this tuner supports and it's giving it incorrect signals...
How about trying another tuner ?
since you use the tow safe most of the time,
you could opt for one of the lower level HP models ....
most reputable dealers will give you a 30 day grace period - so give it a try...
P0603 is normal and just means the PCM has been changed. It'll go away after some number of restarts. Mine seems ot talk a month or so.
I've never had that issue, but I see you have an Airaid so you've done other things. I have exhaust but the cat is still in place so the EB shouldn't be changed that much. I'd suspect the intake opened up more could be causing mis reads of the EBP sensor and it's calling for boost dumps by the turbo.
Do you have a boost gauge? If so, does it boost higher than normal? Mines boosts a max of in the 32-34 range but unless I'm lugging with towing or let off real quick, it doesn't dump that much.

Yeah, I've got the X-monitor; the max turbo boost I've ever had is 29 --my alarm is set for 30.
I was wondering if putting on an exhaust system would help relieve the backpressure and therefore reduce the EGT's??
I normally check the codes every month. If it's the P0603, I erase the codes and if it's set on anything other than stock, the P0603 comes back. Again, I've got no SES light, so it doesn't appear to be a major problem.

My programmer works for all 03-04 Super Duty's/Excursions (don't have the model number handy). I even had to have Superchips update the programming after my truck was flashed, so I can't see the programmer having an incorrect program. But, anything is possible.
Tow-safe is the lowest setting, so I figured it would be the safest to use. Again, my reason for using a programmer is to reduce the turbo lag from a dead stop. Too dangerous.
Thanks.
