I was wondering if anyone out there has used the ProLong oil additive to reduce friction in the engine, transmission, etc. My former neighbor was a distributor part-time, and swore by it...the things he showed me were amazing. It was about the closest thing to frictionless I have ever seen.
I have personally used the "spray" (replaces WD-40) and have been amazed by the effectiveness and results. However, I haven't used the oil additive in my diesel engine yet (would wait for at least 10,000 miles on the engine).
It would take a miracle for me to put that Slick50 crap in my engine, but this ProLong is tempting. Any experiences with ProLong (or anything better) worth mentioning?

I was monmetarily tempted to draw a connection between your signature line and the subject matter of your post. Discretion got the better of me.
Smokey wren, our venerable administrator, had a number of posts on the issue of oil additives. The overwhelming consensus is that the product line as a whole is, to use Smokey's term, "snakeoil". Oil manufacturers add additive packages to their oil. If there was a wonder substance out there that could be added, you could rest assured that Ford would require it to reduce warranty costs and the majors would rush new product to market. A good example of the is the group II based oils developed by Chevron in the mid-1990's. Commonly available now. Save your $$$ and tell your neighbour what an excellent salesman he is.
Fuel additives, the good ones, are whole different story -- right Smokey?
My opinion, STAY AWAY FROM IT. I believe Prolong contains chlorinated compounds (chlorine) which is VERY corrosive to metals, etc. I'd stay away from any of the stuff containing teflon or these chlorinated compounds. Just use a quality diesel oil, change it as directed, and life will be fine .
If you are just itching to decrease friction, try switching to a synthetic oil (properly rated for a diesel engine!). They are safe and proven in our diesel engines + you will get better (easier cold starts).

What "connection" were you making? I have no idea.
Well, I must admit that my neighbor WAS a good salesman, as he believed passionately on a lot of issues. Funny story: He would convert his contractor paychecks (no Federal Taxes had been paid yet) into gold coins, and then re-sell them for cash. Apparently he had found some kind of loophole in the Tax Code that he claimed protected him against paying Federal Income taxes (and therefore Social Security, etc.). He had been taken to court by the IRS twice, and defended himself! According to him, the judge got so confused both times that they dismissed the case. This guy was a German soldier in WWII nonetheless! He always had something going.
Thanks for the input. I am always leary about putting ANYTHING in my crankcase...including the brand and type of oil. As for teflon, don't get me started.
