Hello All,
I'm a new X owner and I noticed that the tailgate doors are very light. They feel like they're fiberglass most likely, they also feel hollow. Now this may seem silly but that is wasted space! Does anyone make some type of kit to maybe install some cubby holes in the inside of those doors? Or do I have to invent one myself? Seems like those hollow doors would be good for storing stuff you rarely ever use, like an emergency kit. Any ideas? Thanks - Tom

First of all, yes it would be great to have some storage "inside" the door. But as you did on you speaker install, one would have to reinforce the box/door. I would think that cutting the hole on the inside would probably make the door weak. It would have to be a custom installation for sure. Makes me want to do it.
Second: sorry to go of topic here but, how did you post the link above without having the whole link address being shown? Everytime I put a link up to help or show someone something, the whole darn link is shown. You just have "here" and "link" to click on. I can't find anywhere on here how to do that, could you point me in the right direction or explain briefly?
Thanks for your help, BTW nice sub woof install, bet it sounds good.
On the link thing, if you save it to My Docs you can rename it by right clicking on it, maybe you can change it without saving it but I don't know how so I do it this way.

You type "["URL"=http://www.yourlinkhere"]Short Text here["/"url]"
Take out all the quote marks you see above when you type it though. I had to put them in so it wouldn't make my example into a real link. And obviously you would put your web link where I put yourlinkhere and what ever text you want to use like "click here" where it says Short Text Here.
Ok, just tested and I got it to work. I'm using TheCraftman's method, pretty easy, thanks again.

There is an even easier way just click the URL button option that is down with all the other post options under "INSTANT UBB CODE" A box pops up. You just paste in the link and in the next box type in your desired text. DONE!
I know this is an old thread but I just bought my '05 X and I have been thinking about putting Sub's in the rear doors. Does anyone know how this sounds once done? Also, I'm not sure how those panels come off.... looks like you just yank but I don't want to break anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
guys have put some nice systems in their trucks...i did a little in mine and it turned out okay...some better quality componants and it'll be great..
i put a pair of 10's in the rear doors..pull the panels straight out to remove them...you'll probably ruin some of the friction clips...i coupldn't find them anywhere except the dealer..$3+ a piece..
here's what's inside the doors..bumpy fiberglass..
i ended up cutting some 5/8" plywood and mounted it to the inside face of the doors ...i cut holes for the subs into the plywood and fiberglass...then modified/mounted the trim panels and cut for the subs, using the holes in the plywood as a guide.
i ran 12ga speaker cables from an amp under the second row seat, behind the rear quarter trim, and drilled into the taillight recess'..then i drilled out towards the doors and ran the cables into them..a little split loom and the wires were as hidden as i could get them..
worst part for me has been getting rid of rattles...i installed trim lock around the perimeter of the panels and have run a couple of screws with decorative caps into the plywood backing to hold things tight..otherwise it's clean and sounds good...better subs and a bigger amp are on the never ending to-do list..
Cool thanks for the pictures. My Ex came with a big sub box behind the 3rd row seat, and I need room for the family etc..so I was thinking of a place to put them and the rear doors looks like a good spot. I have been thinking of Dynamating the interior as I have it tore out right now.. any excursion dynamat kits out there?
thanks
Deo

There is a company that makes a big sub that goes in the useless storage bin between the front seats. It makes it only about 6" deep once installed, but all mine does is collect crap anyway.
