Rattle in drivers door!!

Has anyone else developed a rattle in any of the doors? For the last few days I have a constant rattle inside the drivers door. Id like to fix it myself. How hard is it to take off the door panel?

I try to avoid bringing my baby back to the hospital at all cost.

Re: Rattle in drivers door!!

I also have the rattle in the driver's door. This was a common complaint for SD CC owners as well (perhaps they have resolved this issue already.) What I have to add is that if I push on the door or the window, the rattle stops, so it could just be an adjustment problem.

Re: Rattle in drivers door!!

I have arattle in my driver's side door or B-pillar when I hit a bump in the road. It seems to happen on a vertical axis only since opening the door and shaking it back and forth does not produce the noise. I guess I am going to have to remove the B-pillar because when I removed the door panel I did not find anything that was loose.

To remove the door panel, lift up on the front of the window/lock/power mirror control panel - it should just pop off and it has three sets of wires that need to be disconnected from the panel itself. There will be a screw behind where that panel sits that needs to be removed. Remove the light lens and then the screw behind it. Also remove the interior panel that covers the area where the mirror bolts on. Lift up on the entire door panel and disconnect or pull out the light bulb. That's it. Installation is the reverse.

You will have a sound deadening/insulation sheet that can be carefully removed and then reattached. You will have to remove it to get to the guts of the door.

Here is a link to a .pdf file at http://www.kwmuth.com/ (makers of the turn signal mirrors) that has pictures --> http://www.kwmuth.com/TechSupport/PDFs/21000220.pdf

Re: Rattle in drivers door!!

I had this rattle on my CC as well. Started around 50mph or so. All I did to fix it was to put a 1/8" thick by 3/8 wide strip of glue backed weatersrip on the door where it contacts the hard plastic stip between the front and rear door. No more rattle. haven't heard it since. Hope this helps.

Re: Rattle in drivers door!!

Speaking of rattling noises in the door...I have a funny story that my mechanic told me happened to him.

My mechanic works for a large national rental car company that specializes in short-term rentals for insurance work, repairs, etc. (in other words, not Airport rentals). The point is, he sees a lot of new cars in his shop every day because the renters beat the hell out them (I know, I do too...it's a rental!!!).

ANYWAY, one day he got a car in the shop that the previous renter said kept having a knocking sound in the passenger door. He drove it around, and sure enough he heard clanking. He pulled the panels off the door and checked all the bolts, screws, etc. for tightness...still didn't stop it. He said he drove around with the panels off and kept hearing the noise!

Exasperated, he finally dimantled the door as far as he could and found the problem: A washer tied to the end of a hanging string with a note that said "How long did it take you to find this?"

Needless to say he went back and forth between the emotions of anger and laughter several times. He called the manufacturer with the VIN # of the car and told them one of their factory workers was screwing around with the cars.

He said that once in a while he will find paper cups or sandwich wrappers inside of door panels that factory workers toss in there...I guess some people have a few bolts missing upstairs.

Tailgate, that's one I've never heard before, not exactly like that anyway. Very funny , but not if it was my car

Many years ago, sometime in the late 70's / early 80's when I'd sometimes help out the repair department in troubleshooting tough component level problems for computer / peripheral equipment, I had a funny experience. I remember one day being particularly busy and I was banging out one product after the next as if I was trying to set some kind of repair record. I was glad when the day ended. The following day I went to work on some projects around the house and couldn't find my prized custom made screwdriver which had served me almost daily for many years. I was driving everybody nuts because I couldn't find it and finally gave up on it a few weeks later thinking it was stolen. About two years later, most of the people at the company I worked at were out at some kind of party and I just happened to stay behind to finish up on some things. As I was leaving the office to finally get to the party, a truck pulled up and this guy comes running out from it and begs me to help him. He says he desperately needs somebody to repair his equipment right now because his entire business depends upon it, etc. Since I wasn't really in the repair department, I politely told him that the technicians had left early for a special event and would return tomorrow, but this guy begins to get tears in his eyes and tells me he's going to loose everything etc...

I felt bad so I helped him unload the monster and wheeled it in to the shop and told him to go out and get me some lunch while I took a look at it. After removing a gazillion screws, I get to the heart of the equipment and when I open the internal steel clambshell cover, there's my missing prized custom screwdriver from about two years ago After being shocked and elated , I was then

After getting over my excitement, I realized the problem is probably not to complex to repair. About an hour later the guy returns with this magnificent steak & lobster dinner and says he was hoping this would inspire me to give his product the right kind of attention. After finishing this magnificent meal, I go back to the last bit of soldering on his product which then tested fine. I buttoned everything up with my prized custom screwdriver feeling good that I was able to help him out, but very embarrassed that I left my screwdriver in the product which is something I never told him or anyone else except my wife.

The following week rolls around and the president of our company walks into my office with this plaque and tells me I'm the employee of the year, blah-blah, etc. Apparently that customer I helped had called various people in the company to tell them that I went to great lengths to help him out, etc. I also found this customer had a huge new contract if he could deliver certain results by the end of that week in which his equipment had gone down. Things worked out for him and his company ended up buying quite a lot of product from us as a result of all this, but most importantly, I got my prized custom screwdriver back

Re: Rattle in drivers door!!

Try this first, since it is easy and can be undone. I had a wind noise/rattle and someone here suggested to put a second piece of compressable weatherstripping on the forward side of the rear door's hard plastic strip (that hard plastic piece was the culprit--fluttering in the wind). Here is a <picture> (note the brown weatherstripping is what I added). This solved my problem better than the stereo on 11.
