A while back there was this really cool bumper with a brush guard posted here, does anyone know who made it? the brush bar wraped around the head lights and half way up the hood. that is a real working brush bar those little things up front with thoses extend chrome bars won't do a thing if you hit a deer. I hope someone knows the web site for it

Hey Coldair,
This is probably the place you're thinking about. http://www.roadarmor.com/
Check out the lifted Excursion. I would hate to have that thing bearing down on me!

Reunel probably makes the best bumper for an X, or other vehicles too. But they are very, VERY expensive. And heavy. My local 4x4 shop (Deetz Offroad in Pleasanton) put one on a Dodge Ram and found that it added 350 lbs to the front of the truck!
ProZap crows that their bumpers are much lighter than Reunel's bumpers, yet still strong. But they don't answer the phone much, and they're flakey about sending brochures, etc. I don't like doing business with flakes
SafariGard has been building LandRover bumpers etc for years, and have a good reputation. The owner decided to buy a SuperDuty for a tow rig. Then he noticed how weak the stock bumper is...so he built one for his truck and cranked up production for others. They were decent folks on the phone, so I ordered one. It took forever to get it, and it arrived with chipped powdercoating (SafariGard still hasn't sent me the touch-up paint promised 4 months ago), but other than that I love it. It's slightly thinner metal than a Reunel, so it weighs a little less. It's still huge, massive, and strong. There is absolutely no comparison with the stock bumper. A plus is that it gives you more clearance to run bigger tires.
I don't know about Road Armor because I didn't spot their offering until recently, and I don't need a bumper anymore It looks good in the ads they run.
I have some pics of my X with the bumper to post but I don't know how to do that on this site.

A Ramsey winch mount/brush guard may, for some be a reasonable compromise for both price and weight. At about 150 lbs and $600, it is less pricey and weighty, but yet is very substantial. It ain't no decoration mounted to the useless bumper and it will protect your truck in a deer collision and will certainly help in a moose collision -at least to the extent of preventing the moose from sliding over the hood into the passenger compartment killing the occupants.
I would prefer Reno's setup but W would flay me alive if I spent $1,800 on a bumper. The Ramsey is a good second choice for those looking for a hefty hunk of iron out front that does something.
I took some photos of my truck with 35-12.50s on it. Just put them on yesterday - no rubbing! I tried posting them here but no luck, so I emailed them to FD.com - we'll see if they show up.
Hey Reno Husk,
I always thought you were from Reno. I never looked at your profile to see you were from Livermore. My uncle is really good friends with John Deetz. You might know him Dave Kuhner, he has all his jeeps built there, (right now the purple cj with the flames, and v-8.) Last time I was up north, John let me use the shop to change my oil, very nice guy. Maybe I'll run into you sometime.

Yup I know John Deetz. He lifted my truck, put in the front locker, modified my sway bar links so they don't hang down so far, and installed my bumper. I guess you could say I've been in his shop a little bit
John's a great guy who does good work and stands behind it. You could save a few bucks by going to a huge mega-chain 4x4 shop. But then you look at the kids working there, all pierced and tattoo'd and empty-headed and looking like sh*t I don't want them working on my 40-large rig.
I don't know if I've met your uncle Dave, but he may remember me because I'm very tall and funny looking.
