Rear Auxiliary Climate Control Problem on New X

My "rear auxiliary control" panel is exactly the same as the "front auxiliary control" panel-- both fan controls have "rear" settings. According the manual, only the "front auxiliary control" panel is suppose to have a "rear" setting on the "fan control."

Ok, all that aside-- when the "front auxiliary control" panel "fan control" is set to "rear," the "rear auxiliary control" panel doesn't work like its supposed to.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, or is everyone too confused to give a hoot.

I think Ford just installed the wrong control unit in the rear. Oh well, I've had it since Wednesday night, and this is the only problem I've discovered so far.

Re: Rear Auxiliary Climate Control Problem on New X

Ford installed the wrong rear air control unit so it is probably installed to the incorrect settings. The rear control unit should not have a rear option on it, only the front.

Enjoy your new X, we love ours.

Oooops, they stuck the wrong control panel in. You're going to want to have that swapped out.

Re: Rear Auxiliary Climate Control Problem on New X

Well, my 7.3 Limited '03 has the same set up as yours. The rear panel control also shows a "rear" position for the fan switch. However, when the front panel is set to rear control, the rear functions fine in all positions (except on rear). Hmmmmm. wonder if Ford just decided that one panel design was enough and that way they could save a couple of $$$ per EX. Anyone notice if there are any pictures in the brochure??

Re: Rear Auxiliary Climate Control Problem on New X

Joe,
The owner's manual shows a different fan controller for the rear. It looks the same except-- instead of a "rear" setting on the fan speed adjustment knob, it has a "low" setting. It's strange that your aft controller works on all fan settings but "rear," because that's the only setting mine works on. Oh well, I'll let you know what the service department has to say about it.

Re: Rear Auxiliary Climate Control Problem on New X

Just went outside to take a peek, and sure enough our 03' has the same rear fan controller as the front. If the front controller is in the REAR position and the rear controller is in the REAR position nothing. But low, med, and high all function properly. There was a good picture of the setup on F**D website showing the rear entertainment system, but the picture cuts the left side of the controller off. Do yall also have rear DVD systems?

Re: Rear Auxiliary Climate Control Problem on New X

My '03 has the same face plate front and rear also. As for operation, rear control actually has 4 fan speeds (when control is passed to the rear unit, and the rear control is in "rear" position, it blows lowest fan speed). Front control panel only offers the last 3 speeds (rear, 2, 3, or 4). Aside from the panels matching each other, mine seems to function as described in the manual. I've seen a couple of OEM rear seat entertainment units for sale on Ebay, and they too have had the wrong face panel. Does anyone have the correct panel in thier X? I've considered taking mine back to the dealer and complaining, but just haven't gotten around to it.

Re: Rear Auxiliary Climate Control Problem on New X

If it works, why sweat it? When you have it in for IMPORTANT stuff, just add it to the list. I usually keep a running list of little things, then do them all at once, often just before warranty is up (if they aren't troublesome to live with - this one clearly isn't)

Re: Rear Auxiliary Climate Control Problem on New X

I have to agree with Bundo; if mine worked the way it was supposed to, I don't think I would want the dealership tearing into it. I'll let you guys know what the service guys say as soon as I can get it into the shop.

Re: Rear Auxiliary Climate Control Problem on New X

MOStubbs, I agree with you and THEBUNDO, it's definitely not worth a service call just for this. If and when I do take it in for something, I'll probably mention it then. I used to be a mechanic myself, and I know what can go on. I'm not quite ready to have it taken apart just to replace this. Maybe I'll just buy the part and fix it my self if it gets to bothering me. So far, no one that has ridden in the back has even noticed.

Thanks for the welcome. I do love it here already. There is an overwhelming amount of info available here.
Now if I'd only stayed away from the "cackle" and "upgrade" threads...

Re: Rear Auxiliary Climate Control Problem on New X

Well, it's fixed. Now the rear auxiliary fan control says "low" "dot" "dot" "high," just like it's supposed to...oh yeah, and it works on all fan speed settings. All it took was the right part.
