Re: rear clearance lights

I would like to as well.Every once and a while I go looking but have not found anything that I would use. Then again it's not priority for me, but I will find something.

Re: rear clearance lights

I did the 3 light id-bar above the bumper, not the lights on the roof by the hatch. I was trying to get the look of the SD. Jim

Re: rear clearance lights

How was it mounting the ID bar? I was not sure there was enough clearance between the doors and the bumper.

Another post on this site had a link to a LED light bar that was also used as a brake light and turn indicators. I liked that idea since the ID bar is more in line with other people's eyes.

I'm kinda curious if the install can be done without pulling the bumper to do the mounting and wiring.

I installed the 3 light id-bar when I replace both black stock bumpers with chrome ones, so we had plenty of room to work.

I looked at this before and after installing the bumpers and it seems like it could be done with the bumper installed, but it certainly would be a tighter fit.

What we had to do was notch the metal door sill (below the plastic valance) which supports the rear door catch, as well as notch out the plastic valance itself. Basically, we removed the 90-degree lip portion of the sill a little larger than the width of the id-bar. The plastic valance was trimmed to show the lights, but only wide enough so the 2 mounting holes on the id-bar wouldn't be seen. Next we notched the back portion of the bumper step tread so the id-bar would fit between the bumper and door sill with the lights being centered between the two as much as possible. This might be a little tight, but with a small dremel tool, especially with the flex-shaft attachment, it could be done.

The tricky part might be mounting a couple of brackets to support the id-bar. With the bumpers off, we welded a couple of 90-degree brackets to the underside of the metal door sill to allow the 2 mounting holes from the id-bar to bolt to. With the bumper on, you might have to drill a couple of holes from the top side, then fasten the brackets with nuts/bolts...or fashion something else to attach the id-bar to.

Then of course wiring it up...

Hope this helps...Jim
