Rear door?

The black trim piece on the rear upper door around the door handle has started to discolor. This is the piece about 3 feet long surrounding the door handle. Does anyone know how to take this part off? Is it screwed on somehow or double sticky tape or what? The clear coat has started to bubble and is getting worse by the day.

Re: Rear door?

I would try taking off the lower trim on the inside of the door and see if there are screws holding it in. The shop books I have dosen't really show that piece specificly.FJF

Re: Rear door?

It is a separate part, when I had to have my back glass replaced I fairly sure the glass guy took that off first.

BTW don't break the back glass you can rebuild an axle cheaper

Re: Rear door?

I think it just unsnaps straight out, but I can't remember how the local auto glass guy removed mine. That was why I suggested seeing them.

BTW, don't try to close the lower doors with the glass down. There is a little tab that sticks out at the outter top edge of the doors and just kisses the edge of the glass...just enough to shatter it. Replacement glass if you don't have comprehensive insurance is something like $2,300.

Re: Rear door?

My hinges are starting to chip and the next thing is rust. Thank goodness the doors are platic or they would rust, you would not beleive the rocks that bounce off trailers into the door.

Re: Rear door?

A year in a half ago the X was picked up with 104K miles. When it was time for it's first good cleaning I spotted a small piece of glass in the very rear of the vehicle. When the piece was held in front of the rear glass it looked the exact same. The next thing was to try to see if the key would unlock the rear door, no luck different door!!!

The original owner must have broken it.

BTW, it is a good thing the rear doors are fiberglass rather than metal. I won't get into any details but I watched a rather large guy run up and kick the driver side rear door just to the right of the hinges in the middle and his foot bounced right off the door!!! When the cops came I showed them the rather large boot print which was good evidence!!!

Re: Rear door?

I guess we're all replacing liftgate glass. I had to do mine a couple weeks ago. No idea what caused it, a hot day, window kind of dirty, had just a thin crescent of glass missing in the upper center of the glass, but the entire glass was crazed and ready to fall into cubes. The cleanup was the worst part of the whole process. Glad to have a Shop-Vac

I did spend some time arguing with the first glass 'tech' over the phone about which tail door style I had. He was confused about the part where all Excursions have tri-doors with tinted glass.

Re: Rear door?

Just when I thought I was the only dummy who had absent-mindedly shut the the glass before one of the cargo doors..... it was amazing how that little tab sticking up from the right side door can so effectively spiderweb the entire glass. In Houston, it was only 1600 total at the dealership, but they got it done in one day.
