Rear DVD player went out, any suggestions?

My rear factory DVD player in my 03 Limited X went out, after using it a whopping 6 times in 4 years. What are my options? I would like to keep the factory rear console. Where can I buy just the factory DVD player? Is there anyone who sells a direct replacement? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

How did it go out? I have the same deal but have had no problems. The wire harness is easy to get to. If all else fails they make units that could fit there with a larger screen even....plus at 1/3 the cost. You should be able to wire it in like the factory one, just take it to a good stereo shop, they can wire up anything.

Re: Rear DVD player went out, any suggestions?

We tried a DVD in the player and we get no picture. The dealer said there was some kind short, but nothing else. Pretty vague! I want to keep the console (with A/C controls) all stock so I really just need to replace (or troubleshoot) the DVD player itself. Any ideas?

Re: Rear DVD player went out, any suggestions?

a new unit is about $1200. i checked because mine did not come with wireless headphones, and i wanted the version that did. in thee end, i added a wireless transmitter to my factory unit and it works like a champ.
if you are inclined, the whole thing is easy to remove. 6 screwws i think and then pull down on one of the corners. it has its own hanger system that will support itself while you unplug the harness connectors. there is a small, flat, thin cable going to the monitor, and basic ford connectors for the input and power. make sure everything is plugged together.

btw, when you put a disc in, does your head unit acknowledge that the dvd is inserted and trying to play?

good luck

Re: Rear DVD player went out, any suggestions?

Is the player spinning? if so it is a short path for the AV wires and it could be simple, you just have to drop the unit and see but I am at a loss if it is more than a loose wire or something simple when it comes to 12 volt. I would just pop it open and see. There are a ton of different configurations too, it could be a matter of being in the wrong mode. How about sound? Spinning ans sound are good. Are you familiar with the dash and back of center council controls? Just checking

Re: Rear DVD player went out, any suggestions?

I do think it is spinning, and we do get sound. I will drop it later this week and take a look. Thanks for the help. I will let everyone know what I find.

Re: Rear DVD player went out, any suggestions?

Well I just dropped the unit down. I checked all the connections and all are properly inserted. I did not see any frayed or damaged wires. Everything was nice and neatly routed. The player does spin. We do get sound out. And the screen does come on. The picture looks like a scrambled picture, with a slight hint of color in the scramble. I am by no means an electrical expert, but is there anyway to test the cables? I would assume there is a problem with the cable going from the player to screen. Not sure.

Re: Rear DVD player went out, any suggestions?

I bet the optical eye is either out of line or broken. I am not sure if it can be fixed. Like you I am not a know it all on these things. I would hope someone can fix it but in todays throw away world it may be cheaper to replace it. One more thing to try, hit it with a hammer and see if it helps. Mine just started doing this exact same thing. I get sound, but a scrambled picture.

How did you go about fixing this?
