Rear End Collision

Today, with wife and four children on board, I was rear ended.

The other car was a 1996 Acura Integra. He was going 40-43...that's what he told the CHP. I was stopped.

His car had both air-bags deploy, and was 100% destroyed, ready for the junkyard. Thankfully, he had a few scrapes but no broken bones, or facial injuries.

As for us, we got a jolt, but are just fine. Our X? Nary a scratch! Some black paint missing on the tow hitch, and a very slight, almost unnoticeable bending of the left side of the bumper. If my wife had done this much damage in the parking lot, I may not have noticed, and if I did, I probably wouldn't fix it.

My point in sharing this is that we have some very solid, very tough vehicles, and I can't tell you how happy I am to drive my family around in a rig this tough. We would have been in big trouble if we had our old Suburban, or (gasp) a minivan. (horrible thought)

Excursions rock!!

Re: Rear End Collision

Glad nobody was hurt. I don't get how people can't see these things.
I guess they think they are part of the scenery!!!
I had a pretty bad crash a week ago. My X was badly damaged. I was going 40-45 and had a car turn left in front of me. The other car was totaled. Still haven't rec'd the estimate yet...
Take care...

Re: Rear End Collision

Better a car tagging the rear of your Excursion than say a SuperDuty

God bless the wife and four kids made it without a scratch!

I tend to worry "a little" when the wife and two sons head out shopping but then again they're in the X

Re: Rear End Collision

I personally dont know why you think a suburban wouldnt hold up in a crash??? I'm biased obviously, check out my sig. With that being said, I was rear ended almost identically to you in my F350 by a jeep grand cherokee. I needed a new bumper and a new receiver, no body work damage. The grand cherokee was totalled. He had hot engine parts in his lap

Backup your 1500 Suburban to the back of a 4x4 Excursion then put them on the scales. After that do the math.

Re: Rear End Collision

I drove 2 Suburbans before getting the X. The first one couldn't tow a 6000 lb. trailer without hunting for gears and lugging up hills at 40. The second one had rattles and shakes, and one electrical problem after another. At altitude, with my wife, 5 kids, and vacation stuff packed, it would barely make it up mountain roads.

The bumper was wimpy compared to the X. We backed into something once and put a big dent in it and creased the rear door.

I got sick and tired of Chevy's and traded my last one in with disgust....and got the X.

After the impact, and after checking to see if anyone was hurt, my eyes turned to the rear of my X, where I was expecting to see massive damage. You know the rest. If I worked at a Ford dealer I could sell one of these a day.

One VERY happy X owner.

Brent

Re: Rear End Collision

I have had 4 Suburbans and 2 Excursions all of them 4x4. My first 2 Suburbans were 1/2 ton gas burners and the second 2 were 3/4 Ton Diesels, a 1987 6.2L and 1996 6.5 Turbo. Both Excursions beat the Suburbans hands down in all categories. I just bought the 2004 Model X because of the 6.0 and was afraid this was the last year for them. What a crying shame... Great trucks, I'm driving this one until the wheels fall off unless we see a 2006 Model with a 375HP 6.0.

As far as safety is concerned, the bigger, the heavier, the better. I encouraged my wife to buy a 2003 Land Cruiser because of safety. It weighs 5400 lbs and is built like a tank.

Glad your family is OK, nothing is more important than their safety!

Re: Rear End Collision

You cant compare a 1996 suburban to a 2003 excursion. Technology has improved a bit.
