Rear end vibration

01 x with 43,000 miles. when turning from a stop i hear a vibration noise from the rear end. Took it in to dealer said they found no problem but the noise is getting worse. Where spline goes into rear end has started leaking. Any help on what the problem may be or has anyone had the same problem.

Re: Rear end vibration

If you have the limited slip it could be the clutches. Have them install 1 more bottle of friction modifier in the rear.

Re: Rear end vibration

How do i know if i have a LS rear end? It's a 01 limited 4x4. The vibration is worse while towing and turning. The truck also uses 2 quarts of oil between oil changes. I change it at 5000 miles.

Re: Rear end vibration

On the rear axle tag there will be a number like 3L73 this L stands for limited slip. There is also a axle code on the drivers door jamb tag that I can cross to tell. The only other way is to lift both rear wheels off the ground and turn one while watching the other. with the trans in neutral they should both turn the same direction if it is a limited slip. As far as oil usage that is normal for this engine and you will use more when towing.

Re: Rear end vibration

Mine started doing that after a service to the rear end, so drained it and put in new synthetic oil with that friction modifier, and sounds fine now!
