REAR ENGINE SEAL LEAK!!!!!????

I love MY? (WIFE'S) 03 Excursion. It is one awesome Diesel pushing machine. BUT the rear engine seal went out in it. I had an oil leak about 3 months ago, took the X in a few hundred after AN OIL CHANGE.

OF COURSE the mechanic blamed the pan bolt not being tight. I drove the X to the city where I was working for 3 months. Took it back home and parked it in the garage for a month (driving another vehicle). When I came back to drive the X, IT HAD ABOUT A half a quart of oil on the ground under it. I WAS TORQUED!!!

I took it in and it was the rear engine seal. Took about 3 days to get it fixed. Then the wife picked it up drove it to the store.......AND CALLED ME AND ASKED IF WE HAD RUNNING BOARDS ON IT BEFORE WE TOOK IT IN. YES!!!!!!!!! It is a limited, Honey, it HAS EVERYTHING!!. Needless to say the dealer forgot to reinstall the running boards after taking it off the lift .

Well the smoke has cleared from coming out of my ears and I am fine now . I got the 15,000 mile service for free, plus a free air filter, and a oil and filter change. I guess what I am wondering is: Should a X with only 18,000 miles on it blow the rear engine seal????

Doesn't sound right to me!! Maybe a faulty seal or something ?? ANY ADVISE is sincerely appreciated.

PLUS I'm glad I didn't put the 1704 or the AFE on YET. I SAY YET One thing that kinda troubles me is that it blows out puffs of smoke now??

I really love the X and the WIFE LOVES it too. I just don't want a PROBLEM VEHICLE!!

THANKS FOR the advise in advance. My dealer installs Banks and I am considering the Exhaust BUT IF THE X is going to give me constant BS then I don't want to put on the mods I have OR buy an exhaust that will cause FMC to cancel my warranty.

SORRY if this doesn't make much sense but I had a few Miller LITE's tonight.

Re: REAR ENGINE SEAL LEAK!!!!!????

The rear main seal is a problem with the 6.0. But normally it just seeps a little bit. Just enough to keep a drip of oil on the bellhousing. I've had mine replaced, that wat at about 20k.

Re: REAR ENGINE SEAL LEAK!!!!!????

Mine was dry as a bone for a long time. At about 7500 miles I noticed a little "stain". I change the oil last night at about 12200 miles and wiped a drip off.

I'll keep an eye on it, but I think I'm headed to the dealer with my list of standard 6.0 mess to address. EBP issue (cycling EGR and turbo), possibly cracked flex y pipe (funky waxy deisel exhasut smell with A/C on when I stop), IC tube that won't stay put (realigned and tightened it yet again last night) and now, the drip.

It runs great, but I jst hate the thought of having to have work like this done on it.

I assumed it's the 6.0 since he says in his sig that he has the SC 1704.

WORSE THAN a rear engine seal leak!!!!????

YEP it's the 6.0.

AND THAT ISN'T THE FR$EA#K*ING KICKER. I drove my truck up to the city today about a hour and a half drive at 75 to 80 MPH. Pulling a small EMPTY 5 x 8 trailer. NOT EVEN enough wieght to make a Fr$e%a$k*ING small dent in the towing capacity of the X. I get all the way up there and the X starts making a funky noise. I pull over and check everything looks fine. I get back in and continue the trip. About another 1/2 mile the Tranny locks up and the truck is skidding. GOOD thing I was only going 40MPH or so. My 4 year old and 6 year old were scared to death. My wife put the death grip on the OH [censored] bar and the dash. I was on a major street with ****loads of traffic. I tried to get off the road at about 5 to 10 MPH and every 20 yards or so the tranny went into lock down skidding the X. TOTAL LOCKUP THE REAR WHEELS!!! I know that the dealer dropped the tranny to install the Seal and must have put it on wrong or FreakED something up. I AM PISSED. I STILL LOVE THE EXCURSION, JUST NOT THAT EXCURSION any more. MY WIFE states that she will never feel safe in that X again. THIS was a serious safety issue and the dealer put my whole family at risk including MY KIDS. THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE!! Needless to say the X is at a different dealer and we are going to talk to the dealer that messed up the tranny on Monday. I am sure glad that this didn't happen at 75MPH on I-10. We could have been killed. BUT this isn't the first time the dealer has F#R$E&A*K^ed up someones vehicle. I won't get into that one but can you say buddy at work, tire rotation, untorqued lugnuts and wheel falling off while pregnant wife is driving away from dealership.

I guess my main question is what is the number to Ford and how to I complain in order to get a new X since my family has been traumatized and refuses to ride in this one?????????????????????

BTW I HAVE NEVER TOWED ANYTHING WITH THE X. Besides a small trailer that the tires are only rated for about 1200LBS. SO PRETTY MUCH I NEVER TOWED ANYTHING!! IT HAS NO NO NO NO NO MODS WHAT SO EVER!!! As you can see in the SIG, I NEVER INSTALLED THEM AND I AM GLAD NOW THAT THE WIFE TOLD ME TO WAIT.

Besides being scared ****less, My kids actually cried as they loaded the X onto the Flatbed. They loved that Excursion as did I.

Any help is sincerely appreciated

Wow Ice!! Holy mackrel dude! I'm without words honestly

Probably want to take it up with the offending dealer for sure but I'm sure the dealer you have the X at right now if they perform the correct repair they "may" forward what was wronged.

Better have a look at those rear tires while your at it, might have flat spotted those.
Just remember that cooler heads prevail. I can understand that you are upset but try and stay calm while dealing with this and good luck.
