Rear hatch part #

Does anyone have the Ford part # for the black plastic piece around the rear hatch handle? This is not the handle but the part around it on the rear glass. Mine is loosing the clear coat and looks like c$&p.
Thought of geting it painted but wanted to find the $ on a new one.

Re: Rear hatch part #

Check this out.

I think it's the handle. You may need the reinforcement also.

Take Care

mmsafd,

I'm going to have mine installed tomorrow at a friends bodyshop. I'll let you know the details after it's done.

Re: Rear hatch part #

Thanks. I am assuming you bought a new one and did not have yours repainted. I am hoping I can have it painted for less than the cost of a new one. I just need to find a painter that will not rip me off. Did yours fade and peal from the sun? Just curious.

Re: Rear hatch part #

mmsafd,

I had a friend of mine who owns a body shop order me the part, paint it, and install it.
Total cost out the door was $ 140.69. He told me that the part cost was $ 101.00, so he added labor and gave me that price.

I don't think that it would be much of a problem to paint the old one as it's only plastic. I ordered a new one so I would't have to waste the time leaving the X at the shop. The replacement took about 30 minutes.

The problems with mine started with a mark from the water dripping from the wiper when I would use it, then two patches showed up apparently from the sun. I have had the X since it was new, and that was the only area that showed paint wear. I wash it every other week and have it waxed every other month with a wonderful product called "Buffalo Milke" I found it on the web. One of my friend buys and sells Ferrari's for a living and told me he found Buffalo Milke at the Pebble Beach car show. It is apparently the favorite among a lot of those high end guys. It has the consistancy of skim milk, and can be used on all of the vehicle; paint, windows, plastic, glass, etc. My vehicles stays outside in the Florida sun all of the time and look new. My wifes 98 silver Mustang also looks great. Silver doesn't do well in Florida, but hers looks great.

I left the old part at the shop, but if you want it, let me know. You could get it painted without leaving the X at the shop, then install it. I'll give it to you if you want to pay the freight.

Scott

Thanks for the info. I'll send you a PM. Just curious. Did it not come black or did you go with some other color?
