Has anyone had any trouble with the rear pinion seal leaking?
Mine just started leaking, noticed it last night.
Cray has the same X, built 2 months after mine and he has been thru two seals.
The service writer at the local dealership told him there are two different seals and he probably got the wrong one.
Anyone know anything about this??
any tips or tricks?
Thanks,
Jack

Mine just started leaking at around 50k miles. Does anyone know if this is easy to replace myself? Cost?
Thanks

You can fix it yourself, but I would say to let a pro do it. You have to get the pre-load right when you replace the pinion yoke nut, and (IMHO) that takes experience.
Yes mine leaked at 500 miles. Was slinging oil onto the tail pipe but would not drip. Dealer fixed it in no time (2 days along with rear main). No leak after the fix but now it howls durring deceleration at 40 to 50 mph. Dealer fixing it as we speak - says -replacing pinion bearing and will replace ring and pinion just to make sure they get it right (their a little red faced after returning my X from rear main repair with the tranny a quart low).

It can be done yourself but just the fact that you asked I'd advise you against it.
Cost for DIY is around $30.00 for seal and crush sleave if you got it right. $1,200 if you didn't.
