rear sensors acting up??

When i shift my x into reverse i get a hard tone from the rear for just a second like i'm right against something. It goes away after a couple of seconds and then the sensors work fine. Kind of odd. I'm still under warranty but I think the shop might need to take a look at it.

If the sensors aren't working 100 percent to the fault to a solid tone to tell you that they aren't working? thks

Re: rear sensors acting up??

need a little info on your truck, but you may have dirt or water on the sensors.

Re: rear sensors acting up??

there is no dirt on the sensors and it hasn't been out in the rain. It's intermitent. Getting annoying though.

Re: rear sensors acting up??

Our X sensors would be flaky for up to a day after running through the car wash (though rain never affected them.) So far the ones on the new pickup have been stable. The sensors do occasionally go bad. If it's happening all the time, i.e. easy for the dealer to see the problem, I'd just let them handle it since it's still under warranty. They'll find the bad sensor, replace it, and you'll be back to normal.

Re: rear sensors acting up??

I just went through the complete ordeal of my sensors going buggy. Went to the dealer SIX (6) times. They replaced every part for the system except the actuall wire harness from the bumper to the module/switch. Seems there are a couple of problems that can happen. Either someone bumped your sensor out of place (rear-ended) and the reverse is fouled, or in my case, there is a short in the wiring as the tech found out. He replaced all new sensors and they continued to do the same. In the end, we opted to have a new wire ran from the bumper to the front module rather than tearing out the whole inside of the vehicle in order to replace the wiring harness. I had concurred with the dealer on this since know Ford and the quality of the plastic pieces in our rigs, once you start tearing out the interior to replace the wires, nothing ever goes back in the same again.
So that is my saga with the sensors. Hope yours won't take six trips to the dealer

When I picked up my new 2003 last week the rear sensor was buggy so when I was at the dealer today to have them work on it they worked fine. But when I came home and backed up in my driveway the rear alarm went on as soon as I put it in reverse. I never had problems with my 2000 so this is pis*in me off. I have to go back for two running board light sockets that were missing so I hope the rear sensors do the same thing at the dealer . At least the drivetrain is perfect so far.
