rear spring rates and tongue weight

we are planning to upgrade to a larger toybox. I am seeing tongue weights on new units in the 1200 to 1350lb range with gross GVWR of 13000lbs. We really like the Weekend Warrior FS3000 triple axle. If I change out the rear springs to F350 springs will this work to tow the weight as noted? I am trying to offset some of the limited gvwr of the X. I have weighted the X full fuel and me at 8250lbs. See signature vehicle below. Appreciate any advise and a truck is not an option, love the X.

Re: rear spring rates and tongue weight

Won't you be way over the GVWR? You have 1000 lbs left. I would imagine the tongue weight will be over that. Thats with no cargo in the X.

Re: rear spring rates and tongue weight

Not to go off subject, but look into Holiday Ramblers offering into the world of toy haulers. I saw it at the third Supercross round and it was nice.

Are tongue weights really that much?

Re: rear spring rates and tongue weight

Yup, you'll be over the GVWR for your vehicle. (that's the legal answer). If you beef the rear springs and/or add airbags, etc then the X will easily tow it, but that's not the politically correct answer.

Regards,
Dave

Re: rear spring rates and tongue weight

I am seriously considering a toy hauletr also. Its why I bought a PSD Excursion in the first place. I am considering the Desert Fox 21SW. They are nice. With caro and the tongue weight I know I will be over the GVWR but not by a whole lot. The dry tongue is 810 lbs I believe. But once loaded it might take some weight off the tongue. I am figuring around 800 to 900 lbs loaded. I don't think I would get one if I was at 1200 lbs tongue. You are over the GVWR with noting in the truck at all at that weight. But, .....

Re: rear spring rates and tongue weight

Beast,
I have a 21 foot Desert Fox HW that I tow with the X. Although I haven't weighed it yet, I figure around 8,000 lbs. loaded (2 bikes, 110 gal of water, etc.) It's about the most tongue weight the X will handle stock. I have 1,000 pd. spring bars for weight dist. and have spent time adjusting the hitch. The truck will sag 3 or 4 more inches in the rear than the front with weight dist. connected. The X tows this well, even w/o sway bars (I have a class A CDL and regularly tow all sorts of stuff). I've probably gone over GVWR, but not by much. Oh, and you won't be sorry buying the Desert Fox. ToTowJeep

Thanks. This is the trailer I really want and in the Hardwall. I just figured I would save tongue weight with the SW. Anyway it sounds exactly what I would have 2 bikes, etc. Do you have the fuel station? My understanding its in the back so if filled would reduce the tongue weight. How about a generator? Do you have one?
