Receiver mounted bike racks

Anyone have one on an Ex? Good, Bad, pros & cons.
I need to carry two bikes, and would like to not put them on the roof on inside.
Any help appreciated, Thanks

Re: Receiver mounted bike racks

I picked up one from Costco. It's a four bike rack that truly holds four and is very solid while doing it. It does lower down to aid in loading and unloading and also to open the rear window hatch. I also use it on our motorhome for the same purpose. I keep my rear-view monitor on while driving and the bikes are VERY secure with no bouncing around or swinging back and forth (with the help of a few bungee's).

$119. and it came with it's own lock for the hitch and a cable with loop to secure the bikes. Sorry, I don't know the brand, it's currently on the back of the motorhome in storage. It's medium grey with two black rubber armored arms that are removeable that hold the bikes.

Re: Receiver mounted bike racks

I bought a transsport T2 bike rack for my Excursion. I've been using it frequently and I love it. It holds two bikes, but you can purchase an extension for it so it will hold more bikes. It is solid and the bikes are definately not going anywhere.

The rack holds the bikes in by the wheels. I have both a full suspension mountain bike and a road bike. The mountain bike doesn't fit into a standard bike rack because of the oddly shaped frame. This bike rack holds both bikes without any problems.

The only downside of this bike rack is that I paid $400 for it.

Re: Receiver mounted bike racks

I've had two racks on mine. Both were freebies. the first one would hold two bikes in place with a bungee-type system. It folded down and would rattle a lot.

The second, and current one, doesn't fold down and holds three bikes with a metal plate that clamps down on the frame. It takes longer to use, but the rigidness and lack of rattle is very nice. I can also put a padlock on it and lock the bike to the carrier.

Re: Receiver mounted bike racks

I use an Allen that I bought on Ebay. Holds three bikes, you can order 2 to 4 bike depending upon needs. I like the Allen because it has an adjustment to tighten it against the hitch to prevent it from rocking back and forth like my last one.

Re: Receiver mounted bike racks

I have a Thule that tilts out of the way of the barn doors which is also wicked helpful

I highly recommend it.
