Recommended Towing Tire Pressure 285's

Ive got BF Goodrich AT 285/75/16. 65 psi cold max 3300# each tire. What would be the best tire pressure while towing a 6000# trailer with about 700# tounge weight? Best Tire pressure normally? I have 55 psi in them now.

Re: Recommended Towing Tire Pressure 285's

Clif, although i can't answer your question I am interested in what others say since I am considering upgrading to 285's when my Firestone Maypops reach their life span (soon, I have 18,000 on them).

Did you notice a decrease in towing power when you went to the 285's? I tow a 9,000# trailer with just over 900# tongue weight. I'm worried that I will lose performance when towing over these hills in California. By the way...I usually inflate to about 5 lbs under maximum when towing. Don't know if this is right, but I get good stability with that formula.

The best pressure to run is the pressure shown on the tire inflation chart from the tire manufacturer. That chart lists the recommended pressure for the weight the tire is carrying. Scale the truck and trailer loaded as it will normally be loaded.
