Reminder: Rear glass.....watch out!!

DO NOT ever get your rear barn doors near that rear glass. Ask me how I found out! The rear glass had come down without me knowing it and I closed the left rear door onto it and the window IMMEDIATELY shattered. I read about this happening but it got me too.

Just a reminder to be careful.

BTW I got fortunate to find a whole rear panel(glass, rear gate and everything for $250 at a bone yard). It was silver and my truck is white. It is barely noticeable even without painting. Gonna have the roof painted anyway and will have it painted to match.

Side note: Took it to my local FOrd dealer(very nice people and reasonable) to have it swapped by them and they nicely replaced my cam position sensor under recall. The original only lasted 155,000 miles. Must be a new record!!

You could have just changed just the "glass" it bolts in.

BTW Ford List a few years ago was $2800 for just the glass!

Insurance price to the glass company was like $1150

You did good.

Don't ask how I know all this either

I think the same thing happened to the X we have before we bought it. FOr the first few months that we had our X, small pieces of glass kept falling out of the water weep holes on the bottom of the lift gate. Must have been from a previous shattering. Thankfully, it has not happened to us....

When I cleaned out the X a few months after buying used found one small piece of tinted glass in the rear cargo area.

The rear windows are very expensive too.

Someone please explain how the glass can slide down. I just did my actuator for pdls and it looks to me like ALL the nuts would have to come off for that to happen.
