Replacement Muffler

I installed SCMT (60HP) and can peg EGT's at 1300 very quickly. I know I need to open up the stock exhaust, however, don't want to spend alot of money on a complete exhaust system. Any recommendations on what muffler only upgrade, Flowmaster, Walker BTM, etc. Went to a local small muffler shop to inquire and they weren't real familiar with these trucks, said it would cost $200 or more to just replace muffler. Thought that was somewhat high. Any thoughts on where to buy upgrade muffler? Also, what is a fair price to take out the old muffler and replace with the new one?

Thanks

Re: Replacement Muffler

I just replaced mine but I did the turbo back ATS system with a stainless steel Duramax muffler as I wanted lots of flow and no more in cabin noise, and I am very happy with the results.
thanks Bob Riley

Re: Replacement Muffler

I bought a Walker BTM at O'Reilly Auto Parts for $64 and $40 to get it installed at the local muffler shop.

Re: Replacement Muffler

I am in the same boat as you I just put 60hp scmt. I just want a new muffler instead of spending alot on a complete system, when 90% of the restriction is the muffler. On the pickup forum of this site, I read a lot of good things about the magnaflow muffler. I think I am about to order one from innovative truck products. I want the stainless steel #14771. About $139.

Re: Replacement Muffler

The Walker looks pretty good - couple of questions...

What kind of interior and exterior sound difference are you getting?

Did it make a difference in EGT's?

It looks like it is a center/center muffler but the Excursions have an offset/offset configuration. How did they install it?

Re: Replacement Muffler

The only sound differance I hear is when the vent windows in back are open, but it is not any louder otherwise.

On the install the shop removed the stock muffler and a small section of pipe to the rear and just welded the BTM in the space with an additional hanger to hold it.

Maybe someone else can help on the EGTs my gauges are not installed yet.
