I plan to replace the entire exhaust system on my X. My wife's having a baby soon and I'll do the work while she's distracted so she doesn't notice
Who's done it, which system did you use, and do you like it? I hear good things about the BullyDog system, and hear that the HyperMax system hits the firewall.
Reno,
I added a 4" exhaust from the turbo back to a 5" Magnaflow stainless steel tip. It was too loud so I added a Dynomax Race Magnum (#17225) suppressor. It's 6" in diameter and 16" long. It is 4" straight thru (much like a big silencer) I had it installed as far back as I could. I have increased my speed, performance and hopefully the MPG and it sounds GREAT. My mechanic told me that if I had left it at
3 1/2 on the down pipe it would drone. Only problem now is the rear AC dripping on the SS tip, but I'll add a drain tube tomorrow. (so far no chip)
(Don't forget that these are big loud engines, and there is not much you can do about that, even with the stock system.
I love the way that mine is set up now.

Just a heads up... The Bay Area CHP appears to have it out for people with "modified exausts". My brother-in-law has been pulled over several times for his dealer installed dual tip flowmaster setup. It's a Dodge 1500 5.9L, not real loud either. He went to court for the first incident and got it dismissed. He now carries the court paperwork around with him, and he's needed it. Apparently our wonderful state politicians have rewritten the noise regs to allow for "officer's discresion". Which amounts to open season...
There are a few guys with SDs over in that section of FD that swear by the Bully Dog systems. That seems to be the leading exhaust recommendation so far.
There is no real standard way for the law enforcement agencies in CA to test for sound levels. If you modify your exhaust, it is not suppose to be over 95 db. No provision for where the mic is suppose to be. You also can't remove any smog junk. SEMA has been fight this for years. If you fight these tickets, you will usually win.
