All of the sudden my sensor has stopped. The light on the dash shows it is off (when in reverse)when it should be on and I have not hit it to turn it off. The "off" light goes off when in drive but the "off" light can be turned on when before it could not in drive. I push it in reverse and it will not turn "off" light off. Whats up? I think it is the switch since this has never acted up before.

OK, I just went out and backed the truck in the garage and the @$#@@ reverse senor works fine now, I did nothing but drive the stupid thing. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif[/img] I guess I should not talk bad about the truck, it might hear me and decide to stop working again, I think it is developing a mind of it's own. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img] I started hearing a small chirp when the trailer was on and it went to reverse but that was it. Now with it off it works. My X is doing the same thing, some days it is there and some days it is not.
I have found I can "turn it on" if the light says it is "off" by pushing it but it may not be every time.
Now when I got rear ended back in Jan and one of the sensors was MIA it was off all the time and would not turn on due to the missing sensor.
I am thinking about putting a little bulb/connector grease in each of them and see what it does.

I like the sensors accept when I'm backing the boat or travel trailer.
It gets annoying when you have to pull forward several times to get the trailer where you want it.

Darn now you made me feel bad I just have not had time to go under there in the light of day and see if one of the sensors is just loose.
Could have yesterday except I went to put a little freon in the wifes Aging Town Car found it has or had an intermitent open in the feed to the AC clutch.
Every component and all the wires checked out but it stopped a few times.So a couple of hours went into it including looking over the schematic.
It is a 95 with 170K on it we have done normal maint + one alternator, hard to give one away that has been that good since it has basicly no value and drives almost new. Edit, forgot one idler arm, and rear air bags but that is about like changing shocks.
But I will let you know what I find.

Mine is intermittent to after towing trailer. It stopped working for a few days then worked now its dead again. For a day I couldn't make the light go out on dash.
It seems we all have this after towing, I would doubt it is in the 7 point harness, maybe the stress on the bumper/rear end (I know the hitch is not attached to the bumper but it may be stressing it slightly) I am going to go under it and check all the wires. Mine stopped after towing then started again Sunday after towing. This seems to narrow it somewhat.

My reverse sensor has not worked right from day 1. I stopped replacing the sensors under warranty at 36K because it was wasn't worth leaving the truck at the dealer to get new sensors and have it not work right. The last time as the warranty expired they put on the record "continuing problem" so I could keep getting it fixed. Forget. Not why I bought the truck anyway.
I have learned that if the rear of the truck is hot from the sun, the sensors are going off. It is has been wet out, and or it is hot, the sensors are going off. If I have been towing or not towing, the sensor is going off. Sometimes the light on the dash button blinks and and it works. Sometimes it doesn't work and doesn't blink. Sometimes it blinks and it doesn't work.
I can't figure it out. Complete junk. If I am getting in the truck and I am backing up, I check the rear of the truck to make sure nothing is there before I get in. If there are kids or pets present I make sure all of them are in my field of vision before backing up. If I am parking or hooking up the trailer, I still just guess. Sometimes I believe the sensors, but usually not.

The same thing happened to my F350. The dealer said it was a bad sensor. I bought a new sensor, put it in and the next day the darn thing quit working again. I'm at a loss. I figure it must be in the computer or a short somewhere, but I'm not going to pay $90 a pop to figure it out.
I remember the last time they fixed it. I went to the oounter, paid the paid part of the bill. Asked if the sensor was fixed. The guy says 'yeah'. I said 'are your sure' he said 'yeah, replaced a sensor, and tested it myself.' Hmmph I said. Went out, started the truck, put in reverse to back out of my spot, "beeeeeep". Went back in. Got the guy. Brought him out. He hears it. 'Hmmph' he says 'it was working..."
Went home. Next time I back out of the driveway, no beep. I felt like demanding my money back from Ford on that part of the vehicle because it clearly and simply does not work properly and they cannot make it work, but then I thought 'Why bother'. Isn't worth the time.

Mine has now begun to work on and off. Some days it is on, some off. I have no consistant findings and if I am having this problem I can see the dealer having the same, the difference is they charge me to be wrong, I can be wrong for free. It was nice while it lasted, 72,000 miles. Now I have nothing to loose and I am going to chase the wires from stem to stern. If i ruin it oh well, it is junk now anyway.

Update, it has worked for a week now, I did nothing but hate it and not care about it. I think I hurt it's feelings and it gave up trying to make me mad. The funny thing is that it started working and scared the heck out of me. I was backing up and using the mirrors like the old fashion way and it went off. I just about hit the fuel and smacked the post.
