Revtech or Skyjacker

I'm getting a diesel excursion at the end of this month, and want to put on either 35 x 12.5 or 36 x 14.5 parnelli jones tires.

From what I hear, even though I get a smoother ride with the skyjacker replacement rear leafs, I will loose tongue weight.

With Revtech, although I get replacement front springs, I get rear blocks. I am told, because I keep my stock rear leaf springs, which include the overload springs, I will get less sag when I tow my trailer.

Does a rear block give me a stock feeling ride or does it give a more stiff ride?
Also, are all block lifts pretty much the same?

Thanks-----------------M

Re: Revtech or Skyjacker

Congrats on the incoming Diesel Excursion, you'll love it

If you're wanting to get a lift enough to fit in the 35's and have a soft stockish ride why not look at an Edge 4.5" hanger kit and 5" blocks for the rear?

The taller rear blocks just give more height, doesn't effect the ride at all.I put a set of taller blocks on so I still have a downward rake when I tow.

The add a leafs "may" firm up the ride quality some but upgraded shocks may dampen it to a more comfy level.
caryt has been tooling with his X's lift lately, perhaps he'll chime in

Re: Revtech or Skyjacker

Got the Edge kit now need some time to install it. I would go with an Edge kit with the Edge 5" block. Depending what your tongue # it should set level and still give you the best ride. If it sags the best fix would be air bags or SD rear springs if empty ride quality isn't a major concern.

Re: Revtech or Skyjacker

I have the Fabtech shackle's and V code springs and 1/2 of a Edge mini spring pack with a 5 in rear block on the wifes Ex, witch would be the same as the Edge 4.5 and V codes springs, so just the Edge w/ stock springs would be about 1" lower.
If I were to do it over I would go with the Edge 4.5 kit, but I had the V codes and the Mini pack and the Fabtech shackles were free. I would also recommend the Bilstein shocks, they (and many other good shocks) will make all the difference in the world. Congrats on your new Excursion.

Re: Revtech or Skyjacker

I'm in the lame blue state area called the S.F Bay Area. There are no 4x4 shops around here that do edge kits. Unfortunately I am not machanically inclined (vehicle wise) to intall one myself, so I will need to go with Fab Tech, Rev Tech, Super Lift, or Pro Comp. Is one better than the other?

Re: Revtech or Skyjacker

go to the edge kit and install it yourself, its easy to do and just post here after you get your kit and someone will walk you through it or maybe even help you do it

Re: Revtech or Skyjacker

Frontier ford in San Jose are selling their trucks with Edge kits . I don't know if they are doing it or if they farm it out. It would be worth a phone call to findout . O and as far as a lame state only time will tell

Re: Revtech or Skyjacker

Actually Frontier Ford uses Advaced Truck in Gilroy for thier lifts, who is also going to do my lift. They (A T) told me that they are doing Revtech for all the dealer vehicles. I'm actually getting a 6" lift, so I don't know if Edge does a 6", but I am going to call and find out tommorrow. My question is, what makes the dge better than the other lifts? I hear alot of chatter about them.

Thanks--------------M

Re: Revtech or Skyjacker

There are tons of posts that explain why Edge kits are better, do a little reading and you will find out why. I have road in the other brands and they suck . They have no articulation and ride like a tank. Revtec springs sag in a year in fact my neighbors kid used to work for Advanced Truck and has gone thu 2 sets of springs. Somebuddy is giving you false info cause FF is going to Edge only, as the ride and quality is much better. The last time I talked to Edge, AT was not a dealer , maybe thats changed. Read a lot and check out web page Any good shop can install a lift if you can't do it yourself. Check Freeman Frame in San Jose and compair install prices.

Re: Revtech or Skyjacker

Thanks Cary, I'll do some more research. Mabey I'll bump into you around the Bay Area sometime. I'll have the Limited Black with 35x12.5's with silver Yamaha Raptor / LRD stickers on the rear window and hopefully an Edge lift!

Re: Revtech or Skyjacker

Okay, done!
I found someone to do the edge. My Ex is on a train in Illinois heading to lame liberal California, and will dock in Benicia Ca. on the 22nd. From there, it will be trucked to the dealership in Santa Clara. Here is what I'm doing:

Donahoe 4.5 edge suspension
Micky Thompson Beadlocks 16x10
Parnelli Jones Dirt Gripz 35x12.5
Firestone airbags

I tow a 20 ft. Weekend Warrior with ATV's, so I think the airbags to be neccessary, because every Excursion I have seen towing, has really sagged in the rear. I also have a weight distribution hitch.
Will take before and after photos. Hopefully I wont be hated too bad for driving a huge gas sucking beast! (hee hee)

Re: Revtech or Skyjacker

I knew when I looked at the title of this post that most of the replies would say "edge". I am the lone ranger here I guess because I have a Revtek lift and am very happy with it. I have had it installed for almost a year now and it has not sagged at all. I think the ride is much better than stock. I realize the edge is probably better than the Revtek but I installed what I could afford. I feel that the Revtek is a very good quality lift at an affordable price. I personally would not recommend Rancho anything but that is just because I have had a bone jarring ride with any product I have ever tried of theres but there are some people on here that swear by Rancho shocks. I had a set of 9000's that were the worst shocks I have ever owned. It is all in what you prefer.

Sounds like you are going to have yours set up quite nicely.
