roof rack paint damage?

Back in the old days there was a problem with the roof rack cross bars rubbing though the paint. Does any body know if this is still an issue with the newer trucks?

thanks,
mark

Are the roof rack cross bars real close or contacting the roof if so remove them right now.

Re: roof rack paint damage?

I took mine off and put a greater bend in them. I put them on the curb and stepped on the bar without the ends on to achieve the bend. They do not touch now even with some weight on them.

Take them off and buy a Thule rack. You will need an 8' door though. At least this way you can use it. I have had 50 2x4s lashed up there for a 400 mile drive and they didn't even bend. Car washes are a problem also.

Re: roof rack paint damage?

After I took my cross bars off I also took off the slider rails. Makes the whole truck look better in my opinion. No trouble getting in the garage now but still too tall for most car-washes.
