I looking to buy some roof top running lights for my Xcar. My wife said she MIGHT buy them for me if they didn't cost to much.........So what I would like to know is where can I get a price on them and are they a big problem to install??? Thanks..
Just put a set on two nights ago. I got them from my buddies auto parts store. They were $40 bucks for the set of 5. It is a fairly easy install. Just unbolt the visors, overhead console, oh-**** handles and pull off the pillars. This will allow you room to wire under the headliner. You can run the wire down the pillar and right to the fuse box under the steering column. I choose to wire the lights into the parking lights and not run it off the headlight switch. I used the Chevy style lights as they look much better than the Ford lights. I also evenly spaced them across the top unlike Ford with three in the middle and two on the outside. Sure makes the truck look better.

Do a search on "running lights" on the entire forum. There is a bit of discussion on it. Best I can tell is that you can order them from the dealer and there is a wire harness hook up down on the passenger side that the light warness will plug into. This is something that I to am contemplating on doing. Should look good, but I would keep the grouping of the three lights in the center, that's how all the big rigs have them.....> Eric
If you end up over 80 inches wide (maybe some big fender flares?), you would legally have to follow the law:
The three center id lights at the high point of the leading edge of the roof, should be between 6 inches and 12 inches from each other. The two clearance lights should be as close to the outside edge as practical, but no more than 8 inches from the outside edge.
Thanx for all the help.. The Ford people are installing them next week. About $250 and I won't have to drill the screw holes and end up with a leaky roof. They are going to install them with a daytime running light switch so they'll be on all the time.
curtjones or anyone else that my know-
Without starting a major argument about daytime running lights, I have a question. I would like to install daytime running lights on my Excursion. Does anyone know how the Excursions built for Canada accomplish this? Is it as simple as adding a module? Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks,
John

My Ford Dealer says thats all that has to be done, add a relay, which they are going to do so my roof top running lights will be on all the time..
curtjones-Thanks
When you get the work done, please see if the dealer listed the part number for the relay. I would like to add the day time running lights to my Excursion.

The Chevy lights fit snug and I think look alot better than the Ford bubbles but this is just personal opinion. I just wired mine into the parking lights. Sorry it took so long to post but I have been on the road. I have put over 2500 miles on my X in the last 5 days.

Got it done Tue. and Wed as promised. $258 with all the sales taxes and it really looks good. They didn't have the DRL relay as I supected and if I want one I'll have to go get it. Its 80 miles to the dealership so I may not and I may just wire them into the ignition switch..Anyone see a problem with that??
