Hey! I just received my roof rack from JC Whitney and bolted it on last night. Kewl!
I'd heard right here on this esteemed list that JC Whitney's aluminum roof rack is actually made by Surco, so I took a chance.
Well....it IS made by Surco. It's in their box and has their stickers on it. And boy is it light. I lifted it up there easily myself.
For $180 it seems like a great deal. Now I'll get beaucoup wife points by letting her always park in the garage...the X is not going in there AT ALL with that rack up there and a 4" lift!
I just received a new Whitney catalog. Which rack did you get? Also, how are the 33's working out with the 4" lift? I was quoted 35's with the same lift. Were the 35's too big?
How big is your rack? I could not find one large enough for my needs. I wound up fabricating my own from 3/4" tube and expanded metal. Big, at 54" x 84" and rugged, but it ain't light at 94 lbs. Fortunately, when I load the rack, I have discovered that the Excursion roof is strong enough to hold me. I don't need a ladder to get to it either as the bumper and inside corner of the left dutch door work fine as step ups.
Hey Reno,
I would love to see a picture of the Safari Guard bumper! I am thinking about getting a new bumper with a receiver so I can use a Warn multi mount winch.

33s clear by a country mile now - they even cleared before the lift. And with the stock front bumper gone, there's even more room. I bet I could run 35s.
The rack's the biggest aluminum one that JCW lists in their recent catalogs. There's only one aluminum one in there. I think it's only 5" by 4".
It's pretty light, not heavy duty. I don't need to put much up there. The hi-lift jack is the main thing I wanted to store up there. Maybe a 2nd spare tire when we do desert trips, and bulky light stuff.
A future project is a stainless rear bumper that doubles as a spare tire holder. That will get the spare out of the passenger compartment so I can have more room inside.
I gotta get some pics posted one of these days...
It mounts to the factory roof rails. So you take off the factory cross bars, and mount the rack. You could actually leave the factory cross bars on or slide them on later.
Hey Reno post those pics. I would love to see the 4" pro comp. How are the 33's? Stock gearing?, towing?, ride? and pro comp quality?
Sounds like you have the goodies that have everyone interested. Thanks for any help!

If I find it I'll snap some pics soon. Can we post pics here on Ford-Diesel somewhere?
