Has antone wired the fog lights to be on with out the running lights or head lights. I did this on my 98 cobra, I got the info from the scoa.org web site. I was looking for the info to do this on my 02 X, but I haven't seen anything on it. If anyone has done this let me know I would greatly appreicate the help.
Thanks
Dave

I bought my '05 EB X used, and the switch is already wired to run fogs & parking lights without the low-beams. I can pull the knob out in the parking light position & the fogs illuminate. However, in the Commonwealth of Virginia, this is a no-no. Knowing how more restrictive NJ can be (in many aspects), if you run fogs alone, you may see Barney in your rear view mirror advertising his blue light special.
BTW, is it still a NJ state law that you can't pump your own fuel?
Yep, someone else pumps in NJ and we still have cheaper gas than PA. Probably due to most of the refinerys being here in NJ. And all the landfills. And all the superfund sites. And everyone has or has had cancer here. And.....

Can you pump your own fuel into a motorcycle? I doubt I could let anyone do that with my Harley.
Y'all got landfills??? Then why is NYC's trash barged all the way down here to a landfill along the James River that's about 40 miles east of Richmond?
There are 3 major landfills within 10 miles of me and one that is filled. They take a lot of trash from PA. I live accross the Delaware river from the southern part of Philadelphia.
Most of the worst Superfund sites in the US are within 20 miles of me, with the number one worst site in the US was about 8 miles away, all in NJ. (they are cleaned up somewhat now) I have a large creek and 18 acres of tidal marsh that runs on my back property. Large enough for fishing and duck hunting. The runoff from that superfund site (a landfill) went into that creek. You don't eat the fish around here.
There are also 3 refineries within 6 miles, and a large tank farm about 1/3 mile away on the other side of the creek. 46 percent of the nations ammonnia and 12 percent of the chlorine production passes within 1 block of my house via railcar. Dupont's largest eastern manufacturing plant is within 14 miles.
The cancer centers in Philadelphia have 70 percent of their patients from New Jersey. We also have more cancer centers in NJ than in Pa.
The crazy part of it all is, when you walk out the back of my house, all you can see anywhere is woods and water. Walk out the front, and you find a really sedate suburban setting.
Yes, I fill my motorcycle myself. If they tried to do it for me, I think I would have a fit. Those guys would just end up getting gas all over everything.
I can't wait to someday be able to leave this @@@@@ place and go to another state where it is a little cleaner.
I just can't understand why so many people are wanting to live here. They have approvals for 1500 new homes in my township this year....

How in the world did my question about fog lights turn into a debate about pumping your own fuel and trash barges? Can you guys stick to the topic if you can't don't reply. I would like someone who has something to say about the fog lights to reply, not fuel and trash.

It’s actually pretty easy, but you have to use a relay. I prefer the generic Bosch relays with a mounting tab. Power to the driving light came directly from the battery to the lights via a 12 gauge wire. Ground, also 12 gauge is interrupted by the relay
I did it to my 2000, but have forgotten which wire I used to activate the relay. I only remember that I had a choice of on with either low, high, or both. I chose both.
This was not factory fog lights; they were N/A for Excursions at first. I had to modify a truck headlight switch by putting in the contacts, and LED.
I will be doing my 2002 X in a week or so and will have to sort it out again. Fortunately this one has the fog light circuit already in the switch.

Don't get impatient. I've been working on the diagrams..
This of course assumes you have the factory installed fog lights.
If you wish to run the fogs by themeselves, are you wanting to operate them brom the dash switch or by a separate switch?
Having done a lot of wiring and study of the fog light system, I do not see a way to do it with the main switch.
If you wish to add a auxillary switch, then you need to connect a wire to the 12 volt customer access power line, run it to your switch location, and tap the switched output to the yellow wire at pin 5 of your main light switch. The yellow wire is the signal feed for the fog light relay.
This will allow you to turn on the fogs at any time the key is in the ignition, and will illuminate the fog light indicator on the main light switch. If you want to operate the fogs without the key in the ignition, then use a different fused power source.
The customer access power line is a white/light blue wire that is just taped to the wiring harness that connects to the OBDII data connector. Just follow the harness up. It is a fused 10 amp line that is provied for the customers use. It is fuse location 29 for the 2002 model year.
This is the description from the wiring diagrams:
PTO 12–volt Power Source Wire
The wire color and circuit number
changed for 2002 model year. The
former circuit no. 295, Light Blue with
Pink Trace (LB/PK), 12–volt power for
PTO circuit, is now circuit no. 294,
White with Light Blue Trace (WH/LB);
hot in the RUN key position, and fused
for 10 amps for 2002 Model Year. It can
be found by removing the modesty
panel, and then following the harness
up from the diagnostic connector
mounted on the lower edge of the
instrument panel.

On my 01 I had to remove the switch and cut out part of the switch. That way it can pull out on the parking light setting. Then you have to connect two wires together behind the switch. I know all the years are different for colors for the wires but I will have to do some searching to see what I did. I posted it a while back.
good luck,
Steven

On my 01 I didn't have to cut out part of the switch, it would pull out even in the parking light position, it just wouldn't turn the fogs on unless the headlights were on.
However, to resolve that issue was nothing more than adding a jumper on the back side of the switch. An extensive search and you might find instructions on how to do it. I don't even want to think about have to pull the switch out of the dash again to look, that was a pain!!!!
So now my fogs can be turned on with only the parking lights on.

My 03 does this from the factory, I guess I am lucky. Now if I could keep them on with high beams I would be all set although the PIAAs at 1,000,000 candle watt kind of over power anything stock.

If I read his request correctly, he wanted to turn on the fog lights WITHOUT any other lights on, parking or headlights. That makes it a bit different.

Another trick I did was to replace the 45 watt stock bulb and use a 65 watt high beam bulb, I had one burn out and while looking for a same replacement I found the 65 watt'ers. They have worked fine, I run them all the time with my running lights (I have cab lights so it makes a nice combo) and have had no problem with heat or over powering the relay, it makes a huge difference and I do not get the high beam flash from others so it must not be too bright to look at. Oh, I also pump gas into a trash bag and then......

Thanks for the info so far. I do want to be able to run them with the key on only this way I can have them on with parking lights, low beams, and or high beams.

Anyone add the amber, or yellow bulb to the driving lights to get a fog light? There are times in fog and heavy snow that I would like these to see better, it is amazing how the amber light just cuts the snow and fog, red does this also but you can't run a red light on the front, someone who is coming at you would flip thinking a car was backwards in the on coming lane.
