Re: rust

Just hooking up my Sirius that came for Xmas when I went to put the Antenna on looking at the roof the paint is all blistered and rusting.

Anyone get ford to help with the repaint?
I have an 02 with 60000 miles

Thanks

Re: rust

Cannot believe that no one mentioned the rust at the bottom of the door seams. Long story short Ford repainted my 99 F150 ext cab (all four doors and the tailgate) under warranty before I sold it in 01'. It was terrible IMO once the blisters popped (at the lower seam inside) it went downhill quick from there. That truck as well as our EX's and Super Duties don't have the bottom of the cab going under the doors to protect them from mud build up.

They pack with mud and filth and because of the seal unlesss you wipe really good it stays right aganist the seam.

My Trailblazer had the same issue just got repainted this year at 35K.

My Ex looks better just because of the protection of the running boards IMO. That said I cleaned them well and waxed them knowing that they will eventually rust. VW and other companies line the inside of the bottom of theirs doors with a yellow snot like substance. My 83 rabbitts still had perfect doors after 20 years and 200K.

My 79's went over fifteen years without significant rust because the bottom of the cab prevent dirt from packing into the lower door seal/seam area.

Clean and wax em well.

Re: rust

Did you have to go through a ford factory rep or did the dealer take care of it on its own?

I put a few pictures of the roof in my webshots

Re: rust

I had a black 2000 model prior to my gold 2002, and the paint was cracking and peeling extensively on the roof. I had quarter size spots of rust in about a half dozen places with the cracking all over. It was severely cracked on the hood of the truck also, but no rust due to the fiberglass hood! I feel your pain, and good luck with Ford.

Re: rust

I removed my roof cross member bars ages ago to keep them from rubbing off my paint. I still had some rust spots in the front and back corners around where my roof rack long rails that stayed on my X where bolted in. I taped the areas off, sanded them down and primered them with white. You can't even tell there was rust anymore. No problems since so far. I did buy my X pre-owned and it is a 2000 so I knew there was no warranty for me so I just took care of it.

I'm not trying to be picky, but Excursions, like all Super Duty Trucks, have steel hoods. I've worked on too many of them.
