Re: ?'s for those of you that tow

Yes, they do make the ride more harsh . No way around it . 5psi or 60 psi still very bouncy . When loaded they work well it just the unloaded ride that is really effected .

Re: ?'s for those of you that tow

OK, so if the harsher ride of the Air-Lit bags is not an option with my Mrs. on her mommobile, to keep the Exercion's ass up while towing my 8,000 Lb travel traiel with a 1300Lb tongue weight, I should consider the 2inch or 4inch rear blocks while leaving the fronts alone?

Re: ?'s for those of you that tow

Not that I paid close attention, but I did not notice the harsher ride with the airbags when they are low psi and the truck is empty.

Other options that won't affect the ride include WD hitch on your trailer. With that much tongue weight, you need something to beef up the rear springs, not just make it ride level when pulling. Plus, taller blocks will give it a jacked up look when empty. Bet that's not going to score well on the mom-o-meter either.

I would like to compile A code B code Data like I did for all the fronts but I have yet to see documented data on these like I/WE did for the fronts. So any one that has replaced the G codes with As or Bs please inform us!

Also I still do not know the rate of the A code

I know the Published rate of the G and B if I knew the ride hight changes I could verify the rates and arch height differences. Then once we have that a few times to get an average along with a few rear axle weights at time of measurment. Then I could predict the ride height change for As and Bs like I did for the the S T U V W and X codes

Also looks like some changes were made in the 05 SD rears
Any one know what the new codes are??? I have not been able to find a document like this for the 05s

Spring Info, open Doc MVE-2 then look at page 4

Re: ?'s for those of you that tow

I actually like the fact that the rear end got a little stiffer when I installed the airbags. The rear was too soft for my taste.

Re: ?'s for those of you that tow

Get a brake rite electric over hydraulic brake actuator and use a drawtite brake actuator in the truck. Surge brakes are already banned in several states for use on vehicles with abs brakes. I switched to the brakerite system 2 years ago and will never go back, I can stop much quicker with my boat or my buddies boats then any surge brake could ever do. also I switched to a Ruenel rear bumper that is rated at 15k without equalizer bars our stock hitches are only rated for 5k without bars but the brakerite system will allow you to tow up to the hitches limit of 11k because you can use equalizer bars.
some other things to note is that boats are usually heavier then the manufacture state as my 27 footer with an 8' beam loaded with fuel and gear weighs in at 7300lbs including the weight of the trailer and they at first put it on a 7k trailer only to have the bearing fail twice. after taking it to a commercial scale the trailer manufacture swapped out the trailer for rated for 11k

Re: ?'s for those of you that tow

Thanks Bruce - This is the information I am looking for. I have access to a set of "A" code rear springs. I am just to swamped at work and home to put them on. I am wondering if it will be worth the effort. Has anyone took any measurements?

Yes PLEASE MEASURE!!!!!!

And here is what I think is the best way, front or rear

Measure from bump pad to stop or top of stop on BOTH sides add together and divide by two, even if you are on slightly unlevel surface you should get it right on this way.

Measure before and after, weights vary especially in the rear.

Remember front 03 and up stops are about 1/2 shorter we think, I don't have them to know for shure as I put my own "03" stops on in early 02.

If we can get data on the rear spring changes I will add a "REAR" page to my now well used excel file.
