I already nixed the key in ignition door alarm but the seat belt alarm is more annoying. We always use seat belts and do not need a reminder. When I am hooking up my trailers or moving the rig around the driveway I do not want to hear that damn thing.
There is a nice writeup on disabling the ignition alarm does anyone know how to defeat the annoying seat belt alarm?
This is what I did with my '05. Found this in one of the old postings.
How did you get your Ignition key alarm diabled? Does is disable in the acc position also? Thanks again. Good Luck.
With:
Parking brake on.
Gearshift in park or neutral.
Ignition off.
All doors closed.
Driver's seat belt unbuckled.
Parking/Headlights off.
1)Turn ignition to run/on position. Do not start.
2)Wait for seat belt warning light to go out. About 1 minute.
*Step 3 must be completed within 60 seconds of the seat belt warning light going out.
3)Buckle and unbuckle the seatbelt 9 times, ending with the belt unbuckled.
*When step 3 is complete the belt warning light will be turned on for 3 seconds.
*Step 4 must be completed within 10 seconds of the end of step three or it will exit the programming mode and not change the enable status.
4)Within 10 seconds of the light turning on after step 3, buckle then unbuckle the belt.
*This will disable the BeltMinder feature if it is currently enabled. As confirmation, the belt warning light will flash 4 times per second for 3 seconds.
*This will enable the BeltMinder feature if it is currently disabled. As confirmation, the belt warning light will flash 4 times per second for 3 seconds, followed by 3 seconds with the light off, then followed by the belt warning light flashing 4 times per second for 3 seconds again.
5)After receiving confirmation, the procedure is complete.

Thanks for the fix. It is so intuitive I should have just known
Here is the door alarm delete mod from the 7.3 Upgrades FAQ:
Mod Name: "Key-in-Ignition" Door Dinger Delete Mod
Mod Difficulty:
Tools Required:
Time to Perform:
Mod Description: Removes that annoying dinging sound when your
key is in the ignition and the door is open. Turn ignition to RUN
(do not start), insert prodding tool in hole under ignition and
press the small ball/detent while pulling on ignition cylinder -
ignition cylinder will come out. Look closely at the removed
cylinder and find the small brass contact. You can wrap a bit of
tape around it or simply pull it off. Reinsert ignition cylinder;
it will click into place. Alternate method is to cut the black with
pink tracer wire that runs up to the ignition cylinder.
It worked. I just put a little electrical tape on over the copper thingy and re-installed the Ignition switch. Best fix ever. Now I can listen to the radio while I wash the X. Thanks for the help.

keep trying, it will work I had to try 3 times. The key in buzzer is a pain, I am going to look at this, I like the wire snip myself....

Holy cow, it worked!!! I cut the wire, it was easy to see and can be fixed in a second. I almost cut the blue wire too, it must be the horn because it went off, must have connected with the black pink but I did not cut thru it and it still works. How nice to be able to leave the key in without the dinger, now th one when you turn the key, that one drives me nuts too, mostly when on the phone and getting in. This is awsome, I am telling everyone!!!!

I agree. What an awesome fix. Can't believe it took me 2 years to find this out.
Now if someone can just tell me how to get the lights to go out when you have a door or the back hatch open. There must be a place to install some kind of switch to override this.

I will keep trying...Is there anyway to make all the doors unlock when the vehicle is put into park? I am tired of having to hit the unlock switch everytime I stop somewhere and want to get the kids out of the back.
Well, My Duramax unlocks all the doors if you program it to, I just figured there would be a way to make the X do the same. I think the aftermarket alarm I am going to install will do it...at least I hope it will.
