My seat heater died a couple of days ago. any one have any ideas on what it could be? maby the eliment, if so does any one know where to get just the element? the light on the switch still goes on when pressed. neither the back or bottem works. It's nice to have working when it is this cold. five for the low here tonight and negitives the rest of the week.

I have the exact same problem.
I was having a hot spot in the seat for a couple of weeks before, so I figure the element may have burned out.
I need repair advise as well.
I already miss my seat heater!
Thanks

The part number for the element should be 1C3Z-14D696-AA but I'm looking to confirm that.
If you have a multimeter perhaps checking the continuity of the wiring going to the element to be sure but you may have to unbolt the seat to access the plug/module/wiring.

The two ellements are in series so if one goes out they are both out
Kind of like those lights we all just got working or put in the trash.
My TC had two go and were replaced under warranty both were the bottoms.
In it you had to replace the seat leather, the drivers seat bottom is out again and will not be fixed to much $$ for an older car.
It is likely the seat ellement and if it is separate take it to a trim shop not the dealer as they will send it to the trim shop anyway, at least my dealer would.
If you can get just the ellement that would be great I have been wondering how long they lasted.

You can get the element seperate, I have one in the basement ready to go in. Mine got real hot before the meltdown also.

You guys are making me think. I have a 2004 and have only ever had heat on the seat bottom and never the back. Is that correct for the 2004's? Also, mine gets nice and warm sometimes but then seems to turn off or at least get a lot cooler. Is it on a timer or a thermostat of some kind? Does it need pressure on it to work?
now that you said that my seat was getting verry warm befor it went out. the seat was alot hotter than the back. So has any one done this replacement themselves?

In my 02 it would SEEM that the seat is hotter but it is not
Chances are you have a jacket on insulating your back against the seat and not near as much under your bottom.
Also there is more weight on the seat bottom so you feel it first.
Unless they have changed something the elemets are in series and you can not have heat in one without the other.
There was a discusion a year or two ago about how to get heat in the seat back only and we could not figure an easy way to do it since it is two 6 volt series elements.

There is another thread in General section on this, and I posted a response there looking for the same info. I don't remember the thread right now, but if you do a seach on my username, you'll get right to it. Sounds straight forward, but does involve removing the seat, and then the upholstry to access the element.
My seat used to put out nice heat in the back and bottom. Now none in back and just a hot spot under my right thigh. I thought the element had slipped down or something. I'm happy to have the mystery solved - that its dying and needs to be replaced. I love this website.
Yet another justification for my extended warrantee. I swear those rear vent motors alone have paid for the extended warranty. I think I'm on my third replacement motor.
Somebody here said the after MY2001, the seats were not as hot as they were before (or as wide, by the way). Should I be worried about which replacement element I get?
