Ok Guys (and I am sure gals) - and Mark I hope you are out there - I was comming home from my fathers house and the SES light came on and stayed on. (just checked again after truck sat for 2hrs still came on) I had a couch on a trailer (light load) and did not have my foot in it. I put the WD chip in last thursday, have driven over 400 miles, have put my foot in it countless times(god I love this chip) no SES light. I see from most of the posts that a not so clean surface or over boost is the cause but that does not make sense in my case. The owners guide says somthing about bad gas as a possible cause but I did not know if that was an issue with the PSD. I am going to call WD tomarrow but if I have to take it to ford do I take the chip out or leave it in and tell them not to clear the computer?????
Dunko,
The odds are if the light stays on it's not related to the Turbo Chip, I would suspect H20 in the fuel or something else. Try draining some fuel from your filter housing first before you go to Ford, and pull the battery cables to clear the code and then drive her again. If the light stays off great if not have it check out. I would also make sure the Turbo Chip is in good connection with the PCM, if there is a bad or dirty connection the SES light can pop on as well. Call us if we can help.
Mark

Thanks Guys - Mark, my gut tells me you may be right. I filled the tank and did notice some white smoke during start ups. I have to make a trip to Michigan tomarrow and that should run most of that tank out. The light also went out for a short while but is now back on again. I too am interested in your thoughts on Ferraridriver's question
Dunko,
I wouldn't clear the codes, you need to know what is happening. I too have the WD and have a an overboost code thrown when I was not particularly on it very hard. I got it with no load up a small hill in od and gave it a bit of throttle and bang there is the light. WOT has never done it. I too would be interested in this diode fix, can we do this Mark??? My gauge never registered over 23lbs and it has been checked so no gauge error, is it possible that the chip is doing this or just a week map sensor. I hate the SES light, also mine will not go off for at least 15-20 key cycles, very annoying. Also if you have H2O in the fuel isn't that what the water in fuel light is for, why wouldn't that illuminate, does it also turn the SES light on anyone know?
Hope this helps
Dave

See qadsan's post about half way down the page. http://forums.ford-diesel.com:8080/u...ML/004148.html do a search on "zener diode" in upgrades/aftermarket. The zener diode I used was a 5 watt 4.7 volt. cost .49 cents. It MUST be wired with the band on the diode towards the green/black (middle) wire at the MAP sensor. It is a good idea to open the wire loom as far as possible from the MAP sensor The other end goes to ground. Use solder when splicing. Do NOT use "tap splices", they are notoriously problem prone. There is a convenient ground strap on the firewall. I covered the diode with heatshrink, then a vinyl wire protector. This mod. prevents the computer from seeing over 4.7 volts, just under the threshold of turning on the SES light. BTW, every time I got a light the gauge(SPA design)showed less than 25 psi. Now I know that if I get a light its not overboost, and I am not so inclined to ignore it.

Dunko, I have a WD chip, and have had the SES light come on many times. I have access to a Snap-On scanner and the codes have usually been due to overboost. In California the light sets on the second drive cycle, and will remain on for four drive cycles unless cleared. There is a fix. I don't know why WD does not include it with the chip, as it costs less than one dollar. It a 4.7 volt zener diode at the MAP sensor. Banks has it, why not Western Diesel? Mark, care to respond?

Morning Guys,
Hey Ferrair driver run any races lately, we blew her up again in Atlanta this fall.
Back to business the SES boost light doesn't see what your boost gauge sees all the time , the "instant" boost the MAP sensors sees when you are building boost quick is what sets the SES light. We have considered the diode fix and the jury is still out. We don't want to experiment on our customers so we will continue testing and when we feel it's A OK we'll let you know.
Dunko- Dump some of that fuel from the seperator bowl before you take that trip, that will let you know if you had water in the fuel before the trip, when you come back do it again and you will know if it's all gone or what. If you guys want to try the diode fix go ahead don't let us slow you down we're just a very conservative company and don't jump into stuff to fast etc.

Mark -thnaks for the imput as you can tell from this next question I am a novice but how do you dump fuel frim the bowl- do I take out the fuel filter or do I just use that valve on the side of the engine to drain some fuel?
Thanks

Hi Mark, Yeah, several. Sounds like you need a California engine builder to make you a good one.

I'm new to this site. I ordered a black / graphite Ex. I have owned subs 'til now. My fav was had 6.2l Bank Turbo.
I wanted to warn you of one thing regarding your diode fix. I don't know the circuit but if you are just placing a zener diode across a line with out any resistance. You may be stressing the component in the circuit that is creating the voltage / supplying the current. Someone should check the circuit to make sure that no component will be stressed by placing a diode on a line without any series resistance to protect the source.

I ordered a BLK XLT PSD a few days ago. I ordered the XLT for two reasons. I wanted a black truck... ALL black not with the tan body plastic. ALso I wanted cloth graphite seats. That was the only way to do it.
I plan to do some work to the PSD. Don't know what I'll do yet. I'd thought of Banks Stinger Plus with 25% more HP and 35% more torque. Just can't get enough of that stuff. I wonder if the tranny can handle that extra twist. I've had three subs. My fav was had a 6.2 with a banks turbo kit on a 3/4 ton frame. That beast ran great surprising many a sport car driver trying to cut in front... and still got 17MPG.

Subscursion, Wellcome to the site. Could you check out this link http://www2.ios.com/~gdonovan/turbo_map.html It is a map sensor diode. My question is, do you need a resistor between the zener diode and ground? What happens if the output voltage exceeds 4.7 volts and goes to ground without a resistor? When the output wire is grounded the SES light comes on with another code that tells you that the map sensor output is grounded. Will that happen with the zener diode in place when the output voltage exceeds 4.7 due to overboost. Does that blow the zener diode? If you will email me a fax number, I will fax you the circuit diagram.

Dunko,
Gte out the owners manual they have a pretty good picture to see it. It's on the side of the fuel filter housing and there is a little (yellow I think) level you move and the drain for 10 seconds of so. Be enviromentally friendly, the Ford manual even shows where it will drain so you can catch it with a pan.

Thanks guys- michigan trip got canceled- wife burned enough fuel around town. Refilled and once again the light came on. Last night had one diet coke too many and pulled the chip. No light so far. Excurstroked, I am curious if you always have a overboost code or if somthing else comes up. My light seems to stay on for 7-10 key cycles, go off and then with in 3-4 key cycles come on again. Man, can i tell the difference with out the chip. Dont want to be with out it but ses light is a huge pain --- Are you just living with it? What has WD's response been?
Dunko,
Seems as if you have something besudes the boost SES light going on, will you have an opportunity to get the codes pulled from your PCM? That should tell the tale of what's going on.
