This past Friday evening I reprogramed my 2001 PSD Ex with the Hypertech Power Programmer 3 (model # 41012) and it installed exactly per the instructions. No faults whatsoever. I could see the difference immediately, wow! Today I made a trip to Cincy about 100 miles and all was ok. On the return trip tonite the Service Engine Soon light came on going up the hill out of Cincy on hiway 75 south while accelerating to about 70-75 mph from about 60. Engine had been warmed up for at least 30 minutes. Stopped for fuel, reset the fuel computer and driving the remaining 30 miles to home the fuel computer climbed to a high of 26.2 mpg. I know this is wrong and feel it might be related to the SES light coming on. The highest the computer ever registered prior to the PPP3 being added was about 22 mpg. Even the drive to Cincy today the computer read around 18 mpg.
I will be contacting Hypertech in the morning for some assistance on this subject.
The SES light probably set an over boost code related to the acceleration sprint you made.
The high mpg on the fuel computer is unrelated to the SES light, and you are see what we all see that have added performance chips of one sort or another. Basically, when a chip (or a PPIII in your case) is added, the mpg computer is wigged out. So you'll have to do your mileage computing with a calculator.

I do not have a chip yet, however, I had problems with my trip computer reading strange stuff, high mileage, incorrect outside temp, etc., so I took it in to the dealer and they told me the connecting was loose and about to come off. I have not had any problems since then.

Zachary I had the same thing happen with me X and PPIII. Installed it and drove around Atlanta with no problems for about three weeks. Packed our bags and headed for a road trip to New England this past Fall. When I started to hit the foothills in North Carolina the truck started surging up and down the hills. SES light came on, so I pulled it over and slipped the program out. Light went off and everything was fine. When we got back from our trip, called Hypertech and they of course suggested that I reinstall before sending back, did so, that was back in Oct,no problem since.
Zachary, I agree that it's probably the engine producing boost higher than the computer thinks is "normal" and setting the SES light. No harm done. The light should go off after maybe 5 engine start cycles. It's been measured that the cruise control is capable of sending more voltage to the computer than the go pedal, so sometimes the cruise control provides more accelleration/boost, and trips the SES light whereas your foot cannot. A fix to this is to install a zener diode to the MAP sensor to clip the voltage output so the computer doesn't "see" an overboost condition. Under warranty, you could just avoid using cruise in hilly country to prevent setting the SES light. You need to get rid of this stored code before the dealer sees it, otherwise they will suspect a chip and give you the warranty void dissertation.

Agreeing with what others have already said, the SES light was tripped by overboost due to your Hypertech reprogramming of the computer. I had this happen with my Western Diesel chip coming onto a highway from an on-ramp. The light eventually turned off on its own.
Thanks to all that replied. I did speak with Hypertech today and they basically stated that the cause was most likely a overboost when accelerating. I could uninstall the program and the light would be gone and then reinstall the program again. If it were to happen again they said to contact them and they would take the unit back and slightly modified the program to prevent this from happening. Also, they acknowledged that there is a glitch with the MPG computer calculating the proper mileage. Just use the manual method to figure out the mpg.
After 5 engine starts today the SES light did extinguish without have to de/reprogram the system. Yeah learn something new everyday!
Just a reminder, although the light goes out after 4 or 5 start cycles, the fault code remains stored in memory. It has to be cleared with a scan tool if you are woried about dealer service problems later.

I have a PPIII and enjoyed the additional performance. I too have the ridiculous MPG readings. I was told by Hypertech to remove a
fuse and reprogram to correct the problem. No one has been able to tell me which fuse.
I had the SES light come on while pulling a 6k lb
trailer up and down the Appalachian Mtns at 75 MPH. This thing was moving. I had the PPIII installed for about two months prior to this haul with no problems. I removed the PPIII program, returning it to factory and returned it to the dealer. They told me I had an overboost code, along with "something else" they weren't familiar with. I contacted the guys at Hypertech, they asked me to send in the PPIII to program it for a lower boost. I'd rather keep the performance and
run a lighter foot while towing.

You lucked out by finding a dealership that wasn't keen enough to figure out what that "something else" code was. Almost all (not all) chips and the PPIII leave a sort of bread crumb trail behind in the PCM, even though you remove it, there's some other codes left behind (memory failures I think) that indicate there's been a chip or PPIII plugged in. They could have voided your warranty on the spot.
The best advice for anyone running a PPIII or other single bank chip is to make sure and get a scan tool plugged in to erase all codes left behind before going into the dealership for service!!!!!!!!!!!!
As was stated, codes stay in the PCM unless erased by a scan tool capable of erasing codes. Unplugging the batteries in most cases wont do it either, all you manage to do is create another code that a savy dealership can spot and interpret as a total loss of battery power (why, they might ask), and even then, the code you're trying to erase, isn't, you just add more to it.
The chips that don't leave this trail behind are the 4 page chips. But alas, there's really only one company that is successful at making a 4 page chip that will work in Excursions, and also won't leave any electronic evidence behind that it's been there.
But to erase other DTC's, especially hard codes, you have to have them erased via a scan tool. No other method is foolproof.

Turbo who is that company that can make a f bank chip that leaves on trace?

Just FYI...if you don't have one of the "4-page" chips, look around for a dealer in your area who is an authorized Saleen, Rousch, SVT, etc. dealership. The dealership I go to laughed at me when I asked if they would void my warranty for merely installing a chip in my Excursion. The performance-minded guys are a little less scared of bolt-on modifications. Keep in mind that if you fry your PCM for whatever reason, they could always not warranty the replacement of it. The chip alone should not void the warranty on the engine or any other part of the vehicle...IMHO.
I've run a "regular" (non 4-page) chip for 40,000 miles without any problems.
How is the TTS for towing a heavy trailer? What are the exhaust temps like on a long steep climb? What happens if I hold the pedal at or near the wall for extended periods? Does it affect shift firmness and shift points?
Who are TTS dealers?
TIA
