SES light NOT self re-setting on 2002 PSD Excursion?!

I have done exactly the same mods you can see below on my buddys 2002 PSD Excursion but unlike like on my own truck the 2002 PSD Excursions SES light does not re-set itself (go OFF) like on my own truck (after 2:30 mins) after having "too much boost" (about 26 PSI).

Is it normal the SES light NOT re-setting itself on my buddys Excursion?

Thanks!

Re: SES light NOT self re-setting on 2002 PSD Excursion?!

Has anyone actually scanned it for codes?
The SES not going off would point to a fault that is not an overboost problem.

Re: SES light NOT self re-setting on 2002 PSD Excursion?!

jimmy no there has been no scan so far.

The light came on when reaching ~25 PSI of boost the 1st time (and didn't go off after 2:30 minutes like on my truck)

I guess I have to run a scan then!?!?!

Thanks for your response!

I will take a guess on the code you will get P1211 ICP Not Controllable — Pressure Above/Below Desired.

Re: SES light NOT self re-setting on 2002 PSD Excursion?!

FordMastertech I guess I leave it alone then?

Or buy a code reader to know what's going on? It's probably less $$'s to buy my own code reader than to have it scanned @ the dealer.

Any recommendations?

[/ QUOTE ] I am the last person to ask about aftermarket code readers, I don't use them. I would try Auto Zone and see if they can come up with anything but don't be upset if they don't. Most of the aftermarket code readers will not read the PSDs

Re: SES light NOT self re-setting on 2002 PSD Excursion?!

Sorry I should have typed "programer" and not code reader.

With a programer I could delete the code if it is nothing to worry about.

Thanks for you reply!

When I get a code on my Ex it takes a couple days to clear. It appears to be time related. If I don't drive much it may take up to 4 days to clear. If I drive a lot it takes a couple days. You can also pull the battery cables to clear it.

Autozone and the like will check it for free and even clear the codes.

Re: SES light NOT self re-setting on 2002 PSD Excursion?!

I had the exact same situation happen to me. Was WOT, hit about 26lbs, and the SES came on and has not gone off yet, been about a week becuase I was out of town. FYI, the local diesel performance shop (Diesel Innovations) said they would check it for me. I just haven't been able to get over there yet. If you have luck at AutoZone let us know.

Are you sure you do not keep invoking the situation that is setting the SES light? Stay out of the throttle for a few days. Baby it.... And there is always the option of disconnecting the batteries for a few minutes.

I doubt you'll have luck at autozone. They say our computers use special codes that only a few reader will read.

Re: SES light NOT self re-setting on 2002 PSD Excursion?!

It takes 5 cycles for the SES light to go out. That is 5 starts/stops of engine running with no overboost detected to extinguish. I raninto this after installing my Hypertech programmer about 3-4 yrs ago. Since then when the overboost does occur it will clear afterwards as I explained above.

Thanks Zach. I thought it was time related but I'll pay more attention next time.

Thanks
