Shocks for a 04 Excursion replacement???

I just tried to get some Bilsteins for my 04 X and the Off Road Warehouse said the don't make Bilsteins for the 04 yet. He did sell some for the 01's that were installed in a 04. What is the difference in the shocks between the models years?

What other shocks are availiable? I put Bilsteins on my Dodge 3500 and they are great. Thanks.

Re: Shocks for a 04 Excursion replacement???

There are absolutely no differences between a 2000, 2001, 2002 . . .2005 X.

Any shock that fits a 2000 will fit a 2004.

Parts store just haven't updated their software.

Re: Shocks for a 04 Excursion replacement???

I went on the Bilstein web site and down loaded the application chart to see which shocks were recommended for a '02 4x4 Excursion that was not lifted. The chart listed only '00-'01 models and showed BE5-6208 for the front and BE5-6209 for the rear.

I then called Bilstein to confirm that these would work for my '02. I spoke to a couple of people from their technical staff. I was told that Bilstien does not make a shock for Excursions '02 and up. They said that their engineers noticed that in '02 Ford changed the spring rating and the angle of the shock mounts or something like that; I was then told that a few years back Bilstein was under the assumption that Ford was to discontinue the Excursion, we all know that story, and that was the reason why they did not developed shocks for the '02 and up X's. I told them that I had heard some people were using BE5-6208 and BE5-6209 on the newer models. The reply back was that the shock warranty would be voided if I were to use these shocks on my '02. I then called a few of the aftermarket companies and 4x4 shops by my house to see what their take was if I purchased these for my X. They were all extremely helpful and acknowledged that the BE5-6208 for the front and BE5-6209 for the rear would work for the ’02 and up X’s. When I asked about the warranty and what they would do if there was a problem; they all put me on hold to confirm, came back on the line and said that I was on my own if I installed these. Mike650--
I have those part #'s on my 03 with no issues regarding fit . I think the Excursions are all the same . It is fairly common with all the aftermarket vendors that the part #'s for the X stop with the 02 model year .

Re: Shocks for a 04 Excursion replacement???

I have the Bilsteins all around my 2004 Excursion. Big difference, fit perfect. I would do it again in a second.

Re: Shocks for a 04 Excursion replacement???

Has anyone used the 7100 Bilstein's instead of the 5100's?

Re: Shocks for a 04 Excursion replacement???

Installed them today and they are great handles nice. I only had 11,??? miles what a difference and worth the money. Noe I need to see why the Hellwig bushing are shot so fast. The sway bar also has hit the oil pan as the paint is gone from there from getting tapped.

No, I'm not following you.

If the bushings are worn out, I wonder if I'm right about installing the bar upside down?
